10mm, 38-40 good ammo?

recently traded crappy tech 9 for ruger 10mm single action pistol that also has 38-40 cylinder that interchanges. i do a lot of hiking and was wondering which you think would be best for bear defense

for 10mm I would personally carry corbon's hunter ammo. I think they have 180gr. and 200 gr. (don't know about .38-40)
