Which, in your opinion is the better caliber? People have touched on the subject, but have never given a definite opinion. I am trying to decide which to buy, but I need more feedback like ballistics, amount of recoil, stopping power, etc. Any help would be appreciated! .40 Cheaper and still big enough to bring someone down. Plus might look better in a court case then the old .45
ebear
is it true that the choices on .40 ammo is limited?
sytasyn_syn
Choice? you mean choices like ACP/HP/S&W? I believe so although I am not the ammo expert, there my be places to find it all.

i asked a range manager the same question Hunter asked and he said that you had allot more choices in .45 ammo cause it was more popular.

Just looked it up and both the 40 S&W and the 45acp have 6 types of bullets for them. The heavies bullet you can use for a 40 S&W is 200 grains and the 45 acp a 230 grains. Knock down power for the 45 is greater with less recoil with the 230 grs. round nose. The 40 S&W 200 grains bullet is a lead bullet or Hornady XTP. With a 45 acp the must rounds you will be able to carry in a mag is 10 unless you are using a hi-cap Para 45 with 15 rounds. The 40 S&W have mags carry 12 to 18 rounds. Hope this helps.

.40 is gonna be cheaper. it is still available everywhere. most LEO's carry .40S&W. you are going to have higher mag capacity than .45acp. .40 stopping power is sufficient (it was basically created to stop human threats)(shorter 10mm).
.45acp will be a little more expensive. it to can be found almost everywhere. less mag cap than .40. greater stopping power.
KENCOOL2
45acp has more knock down power then 40, but the 4o is still a good round it falls between the 9mm and the 45acp,you could get a springfield xd that holds 14 rounds of 45acp

what is the price differance between the .40 ammo and the .45 ammo.Im really hedging on what gun to get next.
Reaper308
on what kind. if you are buying boxes of 50 or 100, the .45acp is usually around $5-6 more

DEMO
I have a p22, it is great. I originally bought it so my wife could get involved with shooting. Now I take it to the gun club in door range awsome piece..
