I was looking on line for 45 autos[guns, i found the ammo but no guns] with the +p rating no luck so far, is there any?
my understanding is that this means it is law enforcement certified because none of my reloading manuals ever mention it
I was just wondreing, this +p stuff is new to me, looking for 45auto with more distance, like 9mm, ive had a 9mm before its to small, everyone loves them i know but to small for me. so i thought 45+p mite be cool. Is it like 22 stingers, you have to have a strong gun, and you don't shoot stingers all the time or it will lousein up your gun ?
They have +p ammo over $1 each
45 auto loaded to a +p rating usually applies to lighter bullets. It has more muzzle flash and blast. For self defense you really don't need it. They do have +p rating for hornady 230gr's and 200gr's, the remington golden sabre has a 185gr +p bullet listed a about 1000fps. Most 45"s made out there will accept them.
+p means "plus pressure". it is loaded to higher pressure that regular factory loads. it will have far better balistics. it is available for civilian purchase. the most common +p rounds are 9mm, .45, and .38. just make sure you have a decent weapon that is rated to fire a +p round. most glocks,xd's, m&p's, sigs, hk's or any other decent brand are rated for +p (any weapon that LEA's use will be rated for +p).
there is also such thing as +p+ which is usually restricted to LE use. if you can find it, it is legal for you to purchase. I recently got some 9mm +p+ winchester SXT talons from www.ammunitiontogo.com. at a good price. usually the manufacturers only ship +p+ to police agancies, so when you see it for sale, the police agency probably sold some of the overstock ammo to a ammunition dealer to make their quota (it happens more than you think, since they can just get another grant to buy more ammo)
anyway, I usually keep +p+ ammo loaded for defense at home, just be aware of over penetration in public places.
