5.45 x 39 AR Upper
I have been building ARs on the lower receivers I bought about 3 years ago - while I still can! So far, other than .223, I have bought dedicated uppers in 9mm, 22LR, and 5.7. I'm interested in a 5.45 ver but haven't found any company building complete uppers. Anyone know? Thanks guys, It's too late for me, save yourself. |

what you ask for is hard to come by. you might want to consider either a 6mm or 6.5mm because those rounds easier to find. the design team that ryo working with now, with my pops who is Ironkoji on Gunslot and Reaper308, and charley9toe and geasypaws have decide on these rounds for the LRLSRS family system of rifles we're designing. we have done research and the 6mm and 6.5mm Creedmoore round, these two are available. they will be much easier to find than the 5.45. ask Reaper308 or runawaygun762 when one of them comes on. pretty sure, if a 5.45 can be found at all then one of them know were to find.

Thanks for the reply Gen. Dragon. I agree that I probably will have to have one built. The 5.45 x 39 is the AK-74 round and is available and not expensive. It looks like it isn't popular enough in AR upper form to be an off the shelf item from a mfgr.

do itashimashita (this mean you're welcome) ryo know that the 5.45mm x 39mm is russian make round for the AK-74. but your problem seem to be finding the right upper receiver for this round, because hardly any of major manufacturers here make them. should not be too difficult for experienced gunsmith to mill one for you, but this could be expensive.
btw, we don't stand on ceremony around here. most people here call me ryo. say it like ree oh. but am wondering why seem have heart set on such an unusual rifle.
btw, yesterday was 16th birthday. receive Walther G22 Black A3 bullpup carbine for birthday. Tomorrow my pops and little brother and grandpa are taking me to the gun club and range we belong to, so can shoot new rifle for first time.

Thanks again for the reply ryo. I've only been a member for a few hours so I need to learn the ropes.
Yes, it's an unusual cal for an AR but a common one for other rifles. Ammo is easy to come by. I'm a guy that like things that aren't the norm. Always been that way. BTW, my next post will be about the AR in 6.8. That's not so uncommon.

this rifle interests ryo, because is similar to one of the LRLSRS rifles we are disigning in the 6.5mm Creedmoor x win .300 magnum round. you should check out the Desert Tactical Stealth Recon Scout rifle. it is available in a number of different type chamber including the .338 Lapua, the 7.62mm x 51mm NATO standard round, the remington .243 and the win .300 magnum. this is an outstanding weapon that is available as a bolt action bullpup and it might give you some interesting ideas.
