8mm Mauser (8x57)

Does anyone shoot 8mm Mauser? What ammo do you like?

Cheap ball ammo is...cheap, and corrosive.

Top name-brand ammo is expensive and underpowered, given what the cartridge is capable of.

Any experience with 8mm Sellier & Bellot? Prvi Partizan?

I have shot S&B and Privi. They both work fine and are non-corrosive, but still cost about .75/ea. In 8mm I usually just end up using mil surp and cleaning the bore and chamber etc. with windex pretty good after shooting.

You use windex to clean the chamber and the bore? Do you wet a patch with it and run it through just like normal? What is the advantage over normal bore cleaner. I can see that the ammonia in it will help with copper fouling.

Yes. Windex on a patch. I only use it after shooting corrosive ammo. I don't know exactly what ingredients do what, but I know it works. The old timers turned me on to it a few years back. I don't know how electricity works either, but I know when I flip the switch, the lights come on. I have some other stuff that is lead and copper specific for getting all of the fouling.

do you use a brass brush/jag, or do you use nylon/plastic? I ask because I'm pretty sure the ammonia is a copper solvent and if you use brass, it will react to this as well.

both

I usually run the windex through on a few patches after a brush. I scrub it pretty good. then I run clean patches through, then patches with 3 in 1. I've been doing this for years with no problems.
