AK Question
Ok AK guys give me some help. I was thinking about joining the ranks of AK owners and found a Arsenal Russian Saiga for around 900 dollars new. It's already been converted to pistol grip, double stack mags and standard AK stock. Also available at the local gun shop is a WASR 10 with a folding stock for 750.00. I know the Saiga receiver is made in Russia and according to many is supposed to be the closest thing you can get to a Russian AK and I've heard both good and bad things about the WASR. So my question is, is getting the Saiga worth the extra money. Both prices seem a little high to me, but that may just be the times we are living in. I'm interested to hear what you think. Thanks. |

Saiga-Russian made stamped receiver, 7.62x39 caliber, front sight block with bayonet lug and 24x1.5 right-hand threads, thread protector, standard mil-spec. handguards with stainless steel heat shield, 1000 meter rear sight leaf, scope rail. Comes New in Box with (1) 30-Round Magazine, paperwork, etc. (everything that it had from Arsenal Inc.)Arsenal is the importer. Most all collectors love them as they are high end AK's, and hold there value
The value is in the Russian.
WASR 10 Romanian made imported by Century and a big hit and miss most of the sites are canted, much of the craftsmanship is not there and I can still find them for around 500.00 bucks. Some people love the(most have not seen any other ak)and most all collectors and shooters hate them, there the low end AK.
One more thing to note. Both rifles list above have 1mm receivers and light weight barrels (AKM rifles). If you want heavy barrel and 1.5 receivers you'll have to buy the Yugo or chinese AKs. The high end is the chinese betetr built very well made and have not been imported since 89 I posted pictures of chinese and Yugo AK's a few days ago. You can get a fixed stock chinese for around 900.00 and a Yugo underfolder for around 600.00

I personally wouldn't get a WASR. I know some poeple on this site have them, and seem to like them. I have shot 3 or 4 in my life time and they all seemed to be pretty low quality, as nitris said. Between the two, I would go with the siaga, although arsenal builds other AK's from parts kits that I would probably prefer.
I would also look into Lancaster Arms' AKs. I bought the Lancaster 3060, and love it. Its good quality and very solid. I think they go for $799. If you go to their website or call them, they will build a rifle with anything you want included in 30 days. The milled receiver is only $100 extra. I recommend them.

Thanks for the advice Nitris and Reaper. I'll check on the Lancaster website Reaper. I'm leaning towards the arsenal since I can get it now, but I'll see what Lancaster has to offer. I appreciate both of your advice. I've never messed with an AK before, so I don't have much knowledge on them. Thanks again.
