Let me start off by qualifying that I have a hard-on for America and our military history.
That being said, I differ from many of my fellow conservatives (Constitutionalists?) in that I don't think America should maintain so large a standing military. I see it as a threat to liberty and takes away from the importance of the 2nd amendment.
I'm not saying we shouldn't have a standing army, we've learned are lesson about that a few times. But I think we could and should greatly reduce the size of our military and rely a little more on our citizens to understand their civic duty to maintain the citizen armory and protect the republic.
Am I wrong? Am I missing something? Let me know your thoughts on this.
