For those of you that own a XDM 9mm, what ammo (Brand, etc) do you like for Self Defense? For the range?
Assuming you can find any ammo these days.
Go to Buffalo Bore or Double tap. Anything in 9MM that's quick as electricity works.
For FMJ plinking ammo I would go with any american made brass cased ammo. Remington, Federal, Winchester are all good choices, but you're XD should eat anything.
For JHP defense ammo, any good brand will do the job. I personally tend to prefer rounds that flower or talon vs. rounds that mushroom.... So I like Corbon DPX, Federal HST, and Winchester Ranger SXT. Rounds with traditional mushrooms will work great as well though (like Federal Hydra-Shok, Hornady TAP, Corbon JHP etc...)
since the bullet is seated slightly deeper in the neck, these rounds fit almost any pistol or submachine gun that is chamber for the standard 9mm parabellum. the IMI para mag 9mm round has much better penetration qualities, as well as longer range and more Joules on impact than a standard parabellem. these rounds can be purchased online through IMI. however the Steyr 9mm x 23mm para mag must be fire from a weapon that is chamber for this round. there are many new versions of these 9mm x ? or 21mm, 22mm, 23mm, and even a 28mm and they are all standard, that is not wildcat rounds too. my pops likes the IWI 9mm x 22mm parabellum magnum, which is different company from IMI even though both are Israeli company.
Defense, Corbon 125 gr JHP +P or Speer GDHP 124 gr +P
Practice, Winchester white box or anything that hits to a similar point of impact as your defense load
