Ankle Holster

I just got a Ruger LCR, 38/357 , was thinking about getting an ankle holster for it. I never wore one before and before I shell out money for it, I wanted to know if anyone wears an ankle holster. Are they uncomfortable? Hot? ETC.

I'll tell you what I think, even though it might not help you in making a decision.

Years ago, I had a situation at work that prompted my boss to ask me to "carry" as inconspicuously as possible. I had an AMT 380 backup--one of the early ones that actually was SA, before the DA came out. I got an inexpensive ankle holster [ballistic nylon] that fit the little pistol well, and off I went to work with it strapped on. It was uncomfortable, and bothered me a great deal, mostly because it did not feel secure, especially if I had to break into a run for some reason. In retrospect a good IWB would have been a lot better.
With that experience, I would not consider an ankle holster for a larger heavier or bulkier weapon, but my Ruger LCP is a lot lighter and probably would be OK with a better designed holster.

Too old to fight, Too old to run, guess that's why I carry a gun! "would someone show this asshole the way out of town".[Rabbi Avram Belinski-aka "The Frisco Kid"]

I have nylon one for my PPK. I don't use it much because it's just very uncomfortable. When you sit down you have to be careful of your pants coming up and exposing it. Anymore I just dress around an IWB or use my pocket holster. Like most things, this is a personal preference. I hope it work out.

ankle holster yet? I was drawn to them because I like to dress nicely but 98f and 99% humidity make covering a belt or IWB holster unpleasant. Going to a "nicer" restaurant with the shirt tail out is tacky :<)

I bought an ankle holster and immediately found that I had no trousers that would go over the holster, pant legs were to small in diameter.
To get the gun out of the holster I would have to take my trousers off which would probably draw an unwanted amount of attention and seriously slow drawing my weapon, the gun that is.

I went shopping for new trousers, measured leg I.D., no luck except for industrial uniform pants, not too stylish in dull olive drab. What ever happened to bell bottom dungarees?

I moved all my pocket change, my keys and lint balls to my left pocket, drop gun into right pocket and sold ankle holster, not a good solution.

If you've come up with a ankle holster/clothes combination that works I'd like to know,

Thanks DC for your input, to date I have not purchased one yet. I am glad to hear about the draw backs, and did some checking with an ace bandage and my pistol. Only my dress slacks fit nicley over it, I think I can find bette ways to spend my money.
