Looking for a good .22 rifle, and it's down to this or a Ruger 10/22! I have heard good things about the 597, just wondering if any one has personal experience with one?

Went and handled one

today at Dick's Sporting Goods. I think it is the .22 rifle I will be getting.....not bad at 179.99!

10/22 wins

Screw the remmie. 10/22 is one of the guns Ruger got right. Accurate, reliable (for a 22), and more aftermarket and custom parts available than you can imagine. GET THE RUGER!!!!!!!

First, everyone should have a 10/22 - for reasons already mentioned. I bought the Remmington last spring and am pleased with it too. One thing in the 597 is there are factory hi-caps for it. Aftermarket 10/22 mag quality & function vary from brand to brand. Sportsman's Guide had factory 597 mags on sale for about $19. last summer and I bought a ton of them.

It's too late for me, save yourself.
