I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good small/compact frame 1911 model in 45 cal. I have smaller hands is the reason I'm asking. I'm currently looking only at 40 cal. but if there is a 45 that feels good in my hand I would definitely consider it. Also, why is there 2 different caliber designations for the 45 example 45 Colt and 45 ACP? What's the difference?

there is actually more than that.. .45ACP, .45GAP, .45LC (colt), .45 Super, .45 Schofield, .45 Win Mag, .45 Remington, .454 Casull etc... they all use the .45 caliber bullet, but have different case sizes. The most popular is probably .45ACP (.45 auto) in autos and probably .45LC or .454 Casull in revolvers, although there are .45ACP revolvers too.

as for compact 1911's: (most 1911 are .45ACP)
