In 1989 I qualified for my Garand through DCM using an Arg. Mauser.
I necked down and trimmed 30.06 brass, used Israeli powder, Remingtom primers and 7.62X39 projectiles. I installed a set of Williams target sights. Groups were excellent and recoil was nil. The 'mouse gun' users failed to see how us bolt users could be having fun but I thought it was great. The only other antique out was a SMLE 303.
The M1 I bought through DCM was an International Harvester with no blemishes on the wood or metal. I kept it, unfired with the original box and barrel tube until I gave it to my son last year.
Has anyone else used less than the 'perfect gun' for competition? I'd like to read about some of the more unusual rifles used.
