My Vote

I like the SCAR light and the SCAR heavy.

It is a multi use rifle. The system is built so that you can have a short 5.56 barrel for close quarters, then you can swap it for a longer 7.62 barrel if you need to reach out and touch someone. Also a grenade launcher attaches to the lower in seconds.

The sig 550 series would be a solid choice, although unamerican.

XM8

not sure what happened, other than the fact that all US forces are using the AR style rifle, and they can be easily converted to nummerous applications. its most likely a money issue, due to the current confilct, it would cost to much to go to a completly different platform.

That and the fact that the XM8 is awkward and goofy looking. If I saw a military's force coming at me with those things I would shit myself with laughter

possibly g36c. dont know if it is american. honestly i would think the m16A2 is a conner stone in the american history so they really should keep it.

WOW

someone that takes up for the M-16 series...there may be an angry mob headed your way soon. seems everybody around hear is AK crazy. but it do agree with you, i personaly have no issues with the weapon other than i would like to see the army convert them to gas piston rather than the direct injection currently used.

AK and M-16

AK-47 has been around since 1947.(hence Ak-47) no offense but when will russia change. I had an Ak, i think there just as accurate as a M-16 possibly a little more accurate. never really cared about assult rifles though. Ak-47 Stands for Auto Kalashnikov 1947
A K 47

The m-16 is cool and all. But how many Ak-47s do you see with M203 grenade launchers? The M-16 has been around since vietnam. i admit they jammed alot. to sum everything up I really not taking sides with the M-16 or the Ak

AK-47

AK-47 = Avtomat Kalashnikova 1947, accurate @ 200 to 250 meters, this doesn't even compare to the M-16 in accuracy.

not sure

I served with the army during both the kosova and afghanistan campaigns. In kosovo, I used the m16, and the m4 in afghanistan, both handled well, and accuracy was well above par for me. Not really sure what the military will look to for the next infantry rifle, but I agree with some of the other people here, "it will cost plenty to switch to another platform"; not only in aquisition, but also in training.

wow

Sarge...we believers in the M16's are a few between. I have also seen a trend...those of us who do stick up for the M16 seem to have used it in more capacity then just popping cans (combat for those confused). Now snake I dont want to put you on blast but it has to happen (ill be nice) I dont know if you have ever fired for accuracy with either but, there is no way in hell the AK is anyway near as accurate as an M16...ever...never ever. Sarge...I might need a Blog about the M16 vs AK situation.

P.S. Barretts 6.8 should be next for the military

I second that.

The 6.8 is nice too. I'd want to buy one if the ammo wasn't so expensive.

6.8

from what i have seen, 6.8 costs $16-$40 for a box of 20 depending on the manufacturer (average is around $25-$30) or $120-$220 for a box of 100. The Barnes max range x costs $330 for a box of 100. that is $3.30 per bullet.
I am used to getting my 5.56 or .223 for $6-8 for a single box or $25 for 100rds, $115 for 500 rds., or $225 for 1000 rds.
So basically I can get 500 rounds of .223 cheaper than 100 rounds of 6.8.
6.8 looks great on a ballistics chart, but not on my wallet.

understand

Well I agree with the whole exspence thing on the personal wallet. However my main focus for the 6.8 was of course the Barrett for the military...and that was only for a question someone posted asking "what would be a good replacement for the military". Which some people suggested the AK (flaming idiots). I do understand the price of the items for it and the ammo, but if its for the military...no one checks the spending in the first place. so yes expensive for the individual to own but you got to agree, its one sexy f'ing gun!!!
