ASK BEFORE YOU FILM..

THE WIFE and I packed up our new .410 and we got our sony video camera and headed off to a shooting range here in south carolina. nothing about no filming allowed but boy did the SHTF when she started filming me shooting.mmmm so i guess the moral of the story is..ASK STUPID..!!

I have reasons for the things I do, just don't expect them to be reasonable

filming at ranges

at my last board meeting for our local range(i am range officer)we had a guy who wanted to do some filming at our range showing the different disciplines of shooting.after much discussion we voted not to allow it.there is too big a chance of the footage ending up in the hands of someone who may use it negatively.in our opinions the possible negative impact weighed heavier than the definite positive impact the video might have.there is already plenty of negative pictures and video that is used against shooters and ranges.i believe this is how the range you went to felt about filming.

Filming yourself shoot is a wonderful training tool as the camera shows the good, bad, and ugly of your technique. it is also very useful for getting non-shooters into the sport. I love shooting, always have, but I joined USPSA because of the videos of Todd Jarrett or Jerry Miculek doing their thing. Granted, shooting a .410 isn't going to excite people like the IPSC masters, but it can get newbies to start somewhere. As long as the filming is done safely and the ROs are doing their jobs, there are only positives that can come from it. not allowing filming would cause me to stop going to an organized range. If I'm told not to film us shooting when I go to the Tucson Rifle Club on Tuesdays, I will stop going.
