The most popular is the old .22 cal .222 remington 5.65mm 12 gauge for rabbits foxes and dingoes alot of hunters go for the 6mm Remington .243 Winchester for wild pigs amd small deer, and the 7 mm belted magnum 7.62mm 30.06 for larger deer and wild horses camels and buffalo.

The gun laws in Australia really suck big time
1 You must be a member of a recognised association like Sporting Shooters before you even think about getting a licence.
2 You can only get a bolt action/single shot for target or game shooting.
3 If you want the licence for hunting you must have written permission from the land holder with dimensions of the land area and exact location of the land. (you just cant ask a farmer anymore you must get all this info up front)
4 You must then pass a saftey exam both practical and oral and if you pass you must then wait 28 days to get your licence.

Don't start me on the handgun licence it is so much more restrictive.

Semi auto even in a shotgun, forget about it

Magazine capacity 5 rounds max

working replicas forget it

working models forget it

Dont come here to go shooting you would not like it. I was thinking about coming to your place for a holiday just to be able to send a few thousand rounds down range just to ease my frustation.

All because some rich nut job named Martin Bryant decided to go on a killing spree in Tasmania.

Pisses me off bigtime

sorry I take so long to answer but I have to attend to my wife who has Fibromyalgia and she gets a little demanding at times.

you sure know how to make my day and break it in one sentence.
I would love to be able to come over but with the current terrorist laws in your country and mine, I dont think I would get a passport from mine let alone be able to enter your country.

Old!!!! very old!!! like 30 years old convictions and not even really serious ones still bite over here.

that's the trouble over here voting is compulsory but all the political parties are against guns and shooting, so We are kind of screwed.Wish we had a strong gun lobby, but there are no members of any party that would front it this is regarded as political suicide.

nuf said this is too depressing.

Hey rayzor 51 didn't you guys used to have decent gun laws? You need a NRA type organization down their to fight for your gun rights. As for a pass port, isn't the same everywhere to apply? If you ever make it to michigan madison hts area, detroit, check out double action indoor shooting center and gun shop. They have all kinds of firearms to shoot. Rentals for an hour and all the ammo to boot.

Hey craigman9mm

We had good gun laws until Martin Bryant went crazy in Tasmania. No licence to own or buy a weapon or ammo except for handguns thay have always been down on that. But now we can't even own a semi- auto 22. As I said to greasypaws you cant even protect your family, if you hit an intruder breaking into your house with a 2x4 and fracture his skull, he can sue you for damages. If you kill him you are off to key city (prison)

We have a national shooting organisation called Sporting Shooters Association of Australia.(SSAA).

They have their place as a legitimate club with hunters, target , blackpowder, handgun/pistol, and western disiplines. but they don't seem to do too much towards rallying members to be active in the fight for the rights of people to own and use weapons of the type that you have in the States

Hey rayzor51, u trying to tell me if someone breaks into your home with a weapon or sort, try's to mame your kids or wife, you have to stand there and watch? isn't it illegal to B&E in someones house there? Don't you guys have self defense laws or is your government that totally off the wall on human rights? All I know in michigan, I now live in Nebraska, is once someone breaks in your home and they are armed they have intent, we can blast them and ask questions later. You need to move to the states. They hell with your government!

We have two parties in Qld Labor and the Liberal /National Party. The National party is for the farmers and cattle owners, and pastoralist.

This party is for the country people and they wont even touch the gunlaws. We have only one independent politician in Qld and he got in by saying he would try to change the child protection laws. I have looked into the possibility of running as an independent using the gun laws as a platform and 95% of the population are happy the way things are. They seem to be quite happy to die in their homes or have their children raped or bashed and sit back and wait for the cops to show up and say how sorry they are for not being able to apprehend the culprits.

Being a colony of Britan and always bowing to the westminster system seems to have carstrated most of the men in this country.
