I understand they are considering medals for the victims of the shooting. I personally don't know the "protocol" for this type of situation. Please let me know how you feel, how YOU would handle it.

I don't think fratricide qualifies us for the Purple Heart. This is a terrorist attack, perhaps a hate crime, but like it or not, the shooter was an active duty servicemember, so it wasn't an attack by a hostile force. I really don't know what medal they would qualify for. Soldiers who risk their lives to assist others stateside get the Soldiers Medal, so a few might get that, and the Army Acheivement Medal and Army Commendation Medal can be awarded for specific acts above and beyond, so those are also possibilities. Gotta say, I'd give up every piece of "fruit salad" on my greens, along with a month's pay to get a signed Presidential Pardon, a sewing kit, knife, and five minutes alone with that fucker.

soldiers and vets feel this way. But if they consider this a act of terrorism could they be eligable for the purple heart? I would have no objection to that, but better yet why don't we just turn the bastard over to the friends and familys of the victims.

America is not at war. The U.S. Military is at war. America is at the Mall. If you don't stand behind our troops, PLEASE feel free to stand in front of them!

I'm proud to say I don't have. It's like an enemy marksmanship badge.
