Barney Frank Calls Justice Scalia a 'Homophobe'

WASHINGTON -- Massachusetts Rep. Barney Frank called Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia a "homophobe" in a recent interview with the gay news Web site 365gay.com.

The Democratic lawmaker, who is gay, was discussing gay marriage and his expectation that the high court would some day be called upon to decide whether the Constitution allows the federal government to deny recognition to same-sex marriages.

"I wouldn't want it to go to the United States Supreme Court now because that homophobe Antonin Scalia has too many votes on this current court," said Frank. The video of the interview is available online.

Frank's office did not respond to a request Monday to expand on his remark. Scalia also had no comment.

Scalia dissented from the court's ruling in 2003 that struck down state laws banning consensual sodomy. He has complained about judges, rather than elected officials, deciding questions of morality about which the Constitution is silent.

Controversial topics like gay rights and abortion should not be in the hands of judges, he has said, calling on people to persuade their legislatures or amend the Constitution.

I love this last paragraph. The Dems will do anything to subvert the constitution to their own means, but God forbid a Christian might do the same!

The Declaration of Independence states:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

I know this is not a document administering laws, but it does ring true to why we became a free, independent state from Britian. Gay, straight, black, white, Protestant, Catholic, Muslim, all have the same unalienable rights. I can not understand how one person can dictate that another is not allowed the same rights as the one in question. So gay rights, why not. Practice your religion, why not. Once we begin to dictate rules to one set of people that are different from the rest of us, we nullify that great writ inside the Declaration of Independence.

By the way, I think Barney Franks is the wrong one here. samD hit the nail on the head with his last statement.

It is interesting how the constitution is perverted. I take the constitutional side of this argue ment that since the issue is not mentioned in the constitution the issue is turned back over to the State.
It is a culture war. Should nt the government error on the side of liberty and less restriction?
However the liberals use the courts to achieve what voting does not get them. They are going after my church, my firearms and my 1st amendment rights. I do not want to feel vindictive but I want the libs to be consistant. Let the gays marry, leave churches alone, promote free speech even though it is contrary to your values and leave firearms alone. Hell, legalize drugs under the condition that no public money will go into rehabiliation services.
Do what ever you want as long as you take responsibility for the reaction...

Gay rights

Let the gays live how they want, it's disgusting and wrong, but their right. I do disagree with religious displays in government funded facilities. I think they can have religion school, but only if every religion is represented.
