best handgun defense ammo
what kind of ammo do you guys keep in your handguns? I used to just stick to federal hydra shocks, but started branching out. i still stick to all JHP's. now I keep winchester ranger sxt +P+ in my 9mm. either hornaday T.A.P or corbon JHP's or federal tactical in my carry weapon and DPX in my night stand weapon. I really like DPX, but am a little scared of over penetration in public places for my carry weapons (don't have any kids, so i don't have to worry about that at my house). Anybody have any comments on these ammunitions, also i'd like to hear your prefrences. "Proelium Comminus Auctoritate"

I am also interested in the collective consensus of the community. I have been reading other authors opinions and it seems they believe to shoot the heaviest hollow point you can. I am a 45 guy, so the data favors 230 grain JHP. But data is only as good as the paper it is written on. I am curious if there are any forensic experts that have real world experience reading this that would opine...

You can still buy the SXTs. I heard that Winchester renamed the Black Talon to SXT, which was code for Same eXact Thing and removed the black Lubalox coating. Has anyone else heard this?

yes... that IS what SXT stands for. I already have the origional black talons in .40 and 9mm, but the 9mm SXT's are +P+, the talons arn't. Plus I've heard from a firearm defense attorney that if you shoot someone with the origional talons, the prosecutors have a field day cause all the bad rap they have gotten. they'll try to portrait you as demented and sadistic of carring such a devestating round. In reality the SXT's are actually the same thing, and probably do more tissue damage.

You are correct about the attorneys, It is strange to me that people differentiate between defending yourself and your love ones with lethal force and being a sadistic bastard by defending yourself and/or your loved ones by using lethal force with a bullet that rips tissue causing a larger wound channel and causes more pain and suffering. But there is actually a case that this arguement was presented, I can not site my sources though, I apologize.
Winchester still adds the Lubalox coating to its hunting rounds I believe.

cause i do i keep my h&r 22 mag revolver under my pillow loaded with hornady maxi mag tnt they enter the body then fragment lots of internal damage nothin to punch holes in the walls or my kids the secondary is a moss 500 with 3in mag slugbuckshotslugbuckshotslugbuckshot

remmington makes a golden saber round for the 45 that is nice i shot a squirell with one and only found a head and a tail if that helps and they dont have alot of penitration just alot of fragging

I beg to differ on the penetration of the golden sabre bullet. they expand minimal and penetrate deep. I have shot the 45 and the 9mm in dry wall mud and they penetrated 11 to 14" sometimes the jacket peels back to much but never the less they do penetrate.
