Yesterday, in a "major" policy speech, Bibi Netanyahu, PM of Israel, became much more moderate, and stated he would be able to support a two state solution IF the new "Palistine" were founded as a "Demilitarized" state.
If the subject were not so critical, one might laugh at the text of the speech, because to a certain extent, it sounded like good old Nobel Peace prize winner, Yasser Arafat, going through his "lets stonewall the infidels and give them some false hope" routine.
Of course I have no private input regarding Bibi's motives, but it seems to me he is using the Arafat "technique" against Arafat's followers. The speech contains soaring rhetoric about peace, and then offers the sleeves out of Bibi's vest-- a real crusher--"You guys agree to disarming, and demilitarizing your "country", and the sky is the limit on what we can do.
Do we really believe that if the Palistinians suddenly agreed with those terms, they would hold to them? More importantly, do we really believe that Bibi believes that? No way.
If you are a student of this major problem of the middle east, and you have not read my 5 part postings on What the Israelis know [Political and Legal], you need to read them now.
