Hello folks,
Just a words to say hello and Intro my self. I'm a 54 yr. old male from the woods of Upper Michigan. Started hunting with Dad a 7 yrs old and love my guns Black powder and Modern firearms. I own a tool and die company and can make anything. I have a good bud that is the author of the machinist bed side reader which has a lot of excellent tips on building tooling, fixing etc...tailored for the garage hobbies t to the professional. I'm not here to talk about guys books but wanted to intro him because in the bed side machinist first addition guy talks about a fellow that builds custom rifled barrels with you can do in your garage and build the turning lathe the riffling cutters along with all the details.
Now a tip on making black power. Under no circumstance do your ever dry ball mill black powder. Meaning the sulfur, potassium nitrate and charcoal combined. I will add more to this subject if anyone is interested. Before the 911 days I made and burn rate tested black power that was equivalent and exceeded commercial black powders. I also researched making Potassium nitrate. I have many books on the science and have posted on some of the now gone pyro site's. My interest was to produce my powders for my black powder hunting rifles and a few fire crackers...lol. At the moment I'm researching building my own jacketed Bullet swagging press and dies.

If someone has the desire it is pretty easy to build a Rifle barrel drilling and rifling machine in fact all the components can be scrounged from the old machinery, hardware stores and some assembly. Again I will mention the series of books called the machinists bed side reader because Guy Lautard is a personal friend of mine and has put together a great collection of projects and tools you can make your self for the do it yourself back yard machinists and he also sells the video's on building and using the gun riffling and drilling machine, How to make the cutters, and all the components.
