Ordered a Nikon M-223 BDC 600 from Midway for $260.00 and should get in sometime around Tuesday or so.

Then out to the range...

What prompted my choice was getting the chance to shoot two different rifles with M-223 scopes on them. The AR had the 1-4x20 Point Blank reticle and was nice, but the SASS had the 2-8x on it with the BDC 600 on top of it and it was sweet.

Pretty much made consistent out to 600 yards so easy you didn't have to try. Line it up and "DINK" hit...

Midway is the only one having the 1-4x20 made with the BDC specifically for them as a Dealer Item.

It is well worth the money if it mimics it's siblings and it should.

I'll see about posting some pic's and some kind of review on it with results after I get it mounted up and zeroed.

on a side note, I purchased and installed the Knights Armament Droid app BulletFlight (M) version which is being used by the military in some form, it allows you to hook in the Kestrel 4500 with Blue tooth to your Droid for live weather info into the app so your not having to depend on a sort of close weather link up via GPS with your Phone.

Also see about doing a review on that once I have the Kestrel in a month or so....

hey just noticed, 2 hours and I will be shooting a Scar 17 through a NF QCB/Mid Range! yeha!

take some phone pic's of the sucker if I remember...

It sounds like you got a good deal. I would be interested in a review. I've heard pretty good things about those nikons, but have never seen one in the wild. I was looking at quite a few 1-4's recently and ended up getting a accupoint TR24G.

I know a few guys who use that KAC app. When I upgrade my dinosaur I may look into it. Bring a towel when you shoot the scar!

Dang thing popped me in the cheek each time I shot it!

It was hard to shoot for me because it was setup for billy. He has shorter arms so he had his scope set back too far for me even with the stock at full extension. Then he had his scope on super short rings because of how he sets up to shoot. So I had to scrunch up pretty much and I couldn't get a good cheek weld so, bang, slap, bang, slap, rattled my teeth almost.

Nasty trigger, but it should smooth out over time and I think you can use the lighter AR main spring (trigger spring) to lighten it up if you want.

Over all it is a sweet rifle and not really good on a bench at all. I'd rather field the SCAR 17 over the M4 any day having the ability to reach out and also know that when it gets there it is going to knock them down.

Loving the Nightforce he put on it, we zeroed it at 100 and will see how it does down south on the long range soon.

I couldn't figure out why I was hitting high, then he explained he had set the zero at 100 to the top hash mark above the center of the cross hairs. duhhhh, should have thought of it, but eh.

First time behind it, first 5 rounds, 4 you could cover with a quarter with the fifth about an inch out. If the trigger was better it would have been allot tighter all the way around.

bdc

ISD,
I am curious how that bdc works. I took mine out of my leupold. But i was using the weapon at sea level during the summer and at 10,000 feet during the early winter. needles to say, the bdc only worked at sea level. Too many variables changed when I went hunting.

I have been looking at the kestrel 45ooNV for quite some time. But no disposable income. That review along with the app for the droid has piqued my interest. Waiting patiently for your report.

Nikon BDC

The M 223 is calibrated to the 55 grain variety. Set your Zero at 100 yards and your hold over is pretty simple. Clint, you probably would be better off with a ballistic app and the kestrel blue tooth for exact environ conditions real time.Nikon now has the M-308 series you might want to check out. The M series with BDC once zeroed makes it stupid simple to hit steel from point blank out to 600 without a second thought.

The Knights app would be a good one as it will read the kestrel and actually give you the wind drift, clicks and so on, all you have to do is either enter your bullets weight/velocity and even more ballistics info if you like, pick that bullet and away you go.

You set true north once, also for inclines up od down, you hold your phone level and then tip it to point in the direction of your target. It will give you clicks left/right - up/down and pretty much be spot on if what those who use it claim is half true.

A poor mans BORS system in your hand.

very interesting ISD

i think you nailed the proper scope purchase and i am also iterested in the ballistic app, very soon i will open the purse strings a bit and start buying some much studied and eagerly anticipated gear.Funny thinking of you banging your cheek, again and again,we are alike in that regard, not quitting over a little discomfort.or is that to dumb to quit? i haven't figured that out yet.

BDC reticle

Let us know how accurate it is once you get it zeroed. Can you stretch it out to 600 at your place?

600 yards

Not at WAC, but next weekend we are probably going down to Manatee which is 1000 yards.

Friend of mine has the 2x8 and the 3x9 on a couple of rifles shooting steel up in Georgia and he is hitting steel silhouettes out to and beyond 600 with some fudging below the 600 mark.

Nikon has also release a new M-308 addition to the line which is a 800 BDC reticle.
