Burnt some gun powder!

LOVE that smell. Me and the son in law went out to the farm and did a bit of work on the range. The women showed up a little later. We filled up a mess of water balloons around 2.5" diameter and tacked 'em up on the board. Fun watching them pop and water flying when ya hit one. We used .22 rimfire exclusively. Had a couple of rifles and 3 pistols between the 4 of us. We'd tack 'em up in different arrangements and call our shots. After the ballooons were gone we blasted hell out of the self healing ball. Later we were using the single action revolver .22s, load 'em up and do some "western" stuff. One in each hand, John Wayne style, or fanning a single Clint Eastwood style.
As it got dark the fireball from the cylinder gap and muzzle got pretty bright. We fired around 600 rounds +-. Then as it grew darker we packed away the guns and drug out some 200 bucks worth of fireworks we had been sitting on waiting for the fire hazard to subside. The youngest and some of her friends showed up and we put on a heck of a show. Sheriff's deputy came. Someone had called in. (it's officially a party when the cops get called). Told him who I was, he replied "that's the name I was told owned the place, yall have fun". I still smell like burnt powder after 2 showers! Good times, good times.

LOL

Sorry, when I read this I didn't think about shooting guns or shooting fireworks, but rather thought back to something my late brother, Jeff, and I did in the parking lot of my dad's gun and tackle shop in the early to mid 90s which my dad referred to as more of our "general jackassery."

I guess the best way to describe me and Jeff as a duo back then would be to tell you to watch "My Name is Earl" with Jeff as Earl and me as Randy, happily going along with anything my brother came up with. Anyway, one day he gets a can of pyrodex and starts dragging lines out in the parking lot. Then we started lighting them up, lol. (Keep in mind I was about 15 at this time, maybe younger) Burned huge black lines in the parking lot!

Not the smartest thing I ever participated in but definitely good times.

Sounds great. I need to swing by your range some time. Just do some plinking. Nothing better.

Got to post and run, but it's been rough lately. Kid's got a broken scaphoid. But he got his driver's permit today. Mixed feelings by dad. ;)

Take care GS, I will be on again ranting soon.

Bittersweet for sure on the kiddo. We got to get together for sure. June is booked for me. I hope July or August bring a slow down.

eau de cordite

Vaquero got me thinking, should there be a cologne that smells like cordite? would you use it...?

Yay!

I finally get a day I don't have to work through lunch.

How goes it, GS? Clint, I would like it (eau de cordite), but I don't think TBH would.

The kid's got his driver's permit now. Been taking him out and teaching him. Scary but good. He well on his way to recovering from young and stupid. :D

But he's got an arm in a cast for 8-10 weeks. So much for his summer.

Glad you got a break, not so much on the boy though. The permit stuff is quite an experience for parent and child.

Yes it is Vaq

Yes it is. Assuming you've been there, done that? He's not too bad. I've already let him drive around the lease and the family farm. But he does have the typical new driver habit of wanting to turn the wheel too much and not knowing how to let it come back to zero. But that's something you just have to get the feel for. I just wish he wouldn't always take it so hard when I correct him.
He's never been real big on dad telling him what he's doing wrong. Gets all personal about it and lets his feelings get hurt. I can't seem to get through to him it's just to help him be better.

a little late but

we just went thru the whole drivers training with my soon to be 17 yrold stepson.Speeding in the places he should be going slow and slow in the places he should be speeding along. Now he has his own car,and come Monday a job at Mcdonalds. It gives him some freedom, and responsibility at the same time, something new for him.

Now my 13 yr old daughter just passed the hunter safety program and is crazy about shooting and archery. we are only to happy to oblige her with those activities and Cabelas and Craigslist posters are gonna benefit financially i'm afraid. Her first hunting request was to go bear hunting :)
