The case for looting

I was in Family Dollar yesterday, buying my Rip It drinks and started thinking about whether or not looting a store would be acceptable in a situation of complete social breakdown. I'm not talking about taking TVs or other high-end items, I mean things that can be used for self-sufficiency. My thought on this is as long as you aren't hurting people in the process, taking lifesaving/life extending equipment from a business is a morally acceptable course of action. What are your thoughts on this?

Pretty simple to me.. we all know laws are based on what "reasonable" people believe.. Thats always the litmus test used in courts... Would "reasonable' people do bla bla bla.. So this is pretty simple..

If the family is starving looting for subsistence items is acceptable.. Obviously a DVD player does not qualify as a subsistence item..

UPI sierra vista az.. Police announced today that charges will be filed against David Marlow for Thursdays theft of "rip it" drinks from the family dollar store on Fry blvd.. Sgt Marlow had initially claimed that he felt he could justify his actions as his family had nothing to drink. authoritys claim the Marlow household had a significant amount of alcohol present when they decided to bring charges.

I too think I would hit it for essentials. Did anybody see the cops looting the WalMart in New Orleans during that disaster.
Water, ammo, food, medical supplies. Drive in one door, shop and drive back out, 5 minutes tops, all that a person would need. I am sure the benevolent Walton Family sure wouldn't mind...

Absolutely

When society breaks down and it is every man for himself, currency
is useless, I would have no qualms about looting necessities. The
only one who would get hurt is the one who tries to stop me.

The Walton family will open the doors.. I'm serious.. What they give to charities is amazing. They actually are a business run with a social conscious.. You cant have numbers larger than most nations GDP without problems, and im sure they have thiers.. But i get a little sick of the media looking to slice walmarts throats when the corporation gives as much as it does in taxes and contributes to just about every charity out there..

Every Wal-Mart is given $250,000.00 every Jan 1 to give
away to local charities such as children's camps, school
projects etc etc. That's a bunch of money at a local level.
