Ok. So I am a total noob when it come to firearms. I just bought my first gun (XDm 9mm) and I am totally psyched to hit the range with it. My question: where is the line between carrying it concealed and transporting it to the range? I haven't bought a range bag yet. Can I put it (unloaded)in a backpack/messenger bag? Do I have to keep it in the case it came in? I don't want to advertise that I have a gun...Big XDM on the case seems to be a dead give away. Sorry if these are too basic for this forum. Also wish me luck...need to break the news to the wife tonight... |

congrats on the purchase!good luck with the wife!i say put the unloaded gun in a bag in the trunk with the ammo in another bag in the glovebox.that covers accessibility and the gray areas of how close the ammo is to the firearm that is locked in the trunk.

in Washington it is allowable to not have a CCW if you are driving from home to the range. But separate ammo and firearm as much as possible. And don;t stop at teh safeway in between!

Thank guys. So do you typically carry two bags to the range? One for ammo and one for the gun, clips, ear & eye protection, etc.
Thanks again

I have a range bag for eye/ear pro, pasters, staples, tent pegs, hammer, tape measure, markers, and other goodies, and one smaller bag for fired brass. Ammo is transported in different ammo cans. Guns are in their cases or on me.
