Has anyone ever fired one of these rifles?
I am intrigued by their use of carbon fiber,
but I am also weary that it would be damaged
easier than conventional materials.
It weighs in at 5.5 to 7 pounds.

opinions would be appreciated.

thank you

I am suspicious of it as well, but they have a metal liner and I imagine they tested enough to feel comfortable about selling them and not being litigated. I like it. The price is more than I would want to pay, but it looks to be worth it. But as far as external damage, from normal use, I would imagine it would get more cosmetic damage than a standard coated metal barrel.

hmmm

I don't have any experience with them, but if you look around they seem to have mixed reviews... I can't find any credible reviews on their AR's.

I've used a carbon fiber PRI hand guard before and it was nice, but that’s a lot different than a bbl. Are you looking at their 5.56?

Just trying to enhance my knowledge of AR's. I like the idea of lighter materials. I am still weight training for my ACR!!!

I have read mixed reviews of their AR in both 5.56 and 7.62.

It would be nice if I could find one to handle, but at the price point they are asking, there are few shops that would hold inventory.

I dunno, I could

sell some of my shit and buy a CA 15 predator or any of their line and while it looks cool, I am fundamentally in the business of buying guns and not selling them, I will keep what I have and hope that my fortunes improve enough to acquire one in a timely fashion........(read) I can't afford it and I ain't selling my shit to buy it..........Looks promising though, I like it!

I think I would let them build they for a period of time first...

I know it is supposed to be stronger than steel, yada, yada, ya....

But, look at the HK416... It took a while before it was discovered that at around 10,000 rounds the receiver would crack because of carrier tilt. Yes they fixed it, but... how happy are those people and Military Units that discovered the cracking?

Same with the Adams Arms Piston Conversion, the US DOD has an open contract for anyone who can come up with a truly functional conversion for the DI M4's. A contract that AA lost because of so many issues...

ISD and carbon fiber

ISD<
how long would you wait? they started building carbon fiber barrels in 1995.
I remember when carbon fiber was the rage with bicycles, just don't ever crash...

I am concerned about the ruggedness of the weapon, not only the barrel, but the hand guard as well.

I am in the market for a hand guard and liked the VLTOR CASV mid length, but I am experiencing difficulties with production on their part. I ordered a part they did not have in stock, and was not on the production schedule.

I like the idea of saving weight and that is why carbon fiber piqued my interest. I realize Christiansen Arms more than likely performed field tests, and they probably make durable stuff, but I am at the point where I need real world experience to influence my purchasing decisions.

Let them sell the CA 15 for a while, look at the owner reviews after time. That is a large knot to plop down. I have found some reviews on LongRangeHunting in which people who have made the jump to the CA 15 wish they had not and would not do it again.

I doubt they are going to give anyone a loaner to beat the hell out of to show it will withstand heavy use.

ABS was sold to Proof Research and they do custom builds, though picking up a barrel for a build might be a choice. http://proofresearch.com/

If it was that great a thing, the DOD would be getting some for trials. I would bet that almost all SOCOM Operators would be more than happy to have a Piston AR that was actually lighter than most DI Rifles out of the box.

Then again.

Plump Crazy Lower, PR Barrel, CA forearm, CAR Stock, PMags and you would be in for low weight, low drag. Just don't trip and land on it!

hehe...

I'd like lighter, this SR556 is sweet sitting or laying down, but I can't see running and gunning with it very long without working out for a while.
