Christmas Gifts

Anybody give or get anything gun related or not gun related but still cool for Christmas?

I got a Ruger Blackhawk .177 air rifle. I might return it and get a Gamo, just not sure the Gamo is worth the extra $$ or not. I also got a pretty cool Luminox blackout seal dive watch. I gave my fair share of ammo, a gerber and a streamlight LED. Everyone in our family ended out pretty good

My Dad got me what I thought were tools until I unwrapped the package. When I opened it to my suprise was a Remington 870 Express Magnum with the 28" barrel. It has the wood stock on it and sure is nice looking. I have not taken it out to shoot it yet, but heck the 870 is one of the shotguns that everyone on the net talks about so it should be fine. A good freind of mine from work also bought me 2 boxes of 9MM ammo to. My nephew gave me another cleaning kit because he heard I was getting a shotgun so he bought me a shotgun cleaning kit will the wood cleaning rod. i gave him a nice cleaning kit I bought for Sportsmans guide that is a wood box with a drawer that holds cleaning rods and tips, and the top opens up and has a rack to hol your gun while you clean it. I also bought him 1000 cleaning patches for both his Mosin and his .243. He also got the king size bottle of Hoppes so he should be set for a couple days.

Looks like several of you got quite the haul. I got a new 40" soft side case for my .22LR Henry, a nice Barska spotting scope, a couple of gun mag subscriptions, and some shooting gloves.

I hated Hurt Locker

Now, I liked The Expendables, I liked Predators, so realism isn't really high on the list of requirements for me, but that fucking movie was absolutely ridiculous. If you're trying to entertain, then entertain. Don't worry about trying to be authentic. If it was realistic, the vast majority of scenes would have been boring as shit, because the EOD techs would have used the robot.

I agree with hastheruns. There was so much hollywood in the movie that it detracted from the story for me. If hollywood is going to advertise their movies based on reality, then base them on reality. The Expendables, the Losers, the A-Team, Predators, are all fictional movies so I can suspend reality and buy into the world they are selling, although I can not believe for one instant that Adrien Brody could kill a Predator...

during the time this movie was set, in the area this movie was set. I saw one EOD tech put on his bomb suit twice total. And the other techs said he was an idiot.

While you were an escort for the EOD, was there alcohol available where you were? A buddy of mine was running patrols to a water treatment plant and told me there has not been alcohol in country for any of his 3 tours, he is a major now.

just curious if there was a way to smuggle it in, or if there was time when he was vacant that it was available.

the A-team

I thought The Losers was way better and fit the TV show A-team better. Just my opinion...

where there's a will, there's a way. Civilian contractors can get anything. I was talking to a German truck driver on my second tour and he said a compound of one of the companies that rhymes with Kellogg, Brown, and Boot had Phillipino (or is it Fillipino?) prostitutes and cocaine in a major airbase in Iraq.

It's also, from what I understand, easy for a family member to buy those little "DUI" shooter bottles of liquor from a gas station and stuff a few in the toes of a new pair of running shoes and send off in a care package. Take the, um, let's just say Smirnoff Vodka (as a theoretical example), buy some Tropicana 100% pure Florida orange juice, mix, and enjoy some Tropicana not-quite 100% pure Florida orange juice after a difficult mission outside the hooch while playing spades or hold-'em.

They also don't search personal baggage for contraband on the way into the country, so it's possible, I imagine, for a platoon sergeant to take some Johnny Walker Black Label with him and do a shot with his squad leaders, but that's just my imagination

I've also heard about a movie where British contractors pick up alcohol from the Kurds in northern Iraq (A very secular group of people for the most part) and bring it back to an airbase where it gets added to Gatorade and passed around to reserve airmen and a few soldiers while sitting around a bonfire of pallets. I just don't remember who stars in the movie.
