Has anyone here done the CMP M1 program? I think I want to do it and was considering a service grade rifle. Is it pretty easy? Are their rifles in decent shape? I just want a shooter. It doesn't have to be pretty and have all matching parts or any other collector worry. I just want to own and fire the "greatest battle implement ever devised".

But then again, I might look into an M1A (semi--auto M14) from SA. A lot more costly rifle and the mags are a lot more pricey than the clips. But it's a great rifle too and no M1 thumb, no en-bloc clips, more than 8 rounds.

Hmm...

never did this program but it seems like a very interesting thing. If I had the money I would!

The service grade is $580. That's a REAL good price for these. And it doesn't have to ship to an FFL, they can ship it direct to you. There's just some requirements to get one.

CMP Garands...

Yes, I have a CMP Service Grade M1 Garand and I'm very pleased with it. Yes, most of them have some mixed parts as they are all surplus and have been rebuilt several times over their service life. Mine has a new CMP stock rather then the original wood but it is a decent copy. as for shooting, mine sighted in at 100 yards to a spread of about 6" in about 25 shots. that's close enought to get a deer if you wanted. Spend a little more time and you can probably get it tighter. Over all I would consider them a good deal for a shooter. Enjoy...

thanks for the info and welcome to the site. Did you have much trouble verifying your qualifications? Did you have it shipped direct to you?
