Has this happened to anyone else? You start talking guns with a person and they start saying weird things like 'The Colt python isn't very effective. It's too slow and lacks power.", or "Oh the AK is much better than the M14. It's more accurate and powerful", or "You can do more damage with the CZ75 by throwing it at them"

And then you realize that their source of knowledge is one of these new video games like Call of Duty. Once I realize what's going on, I'll ask if they've ever fired a real weapon. Usually, the answer is 'No, but the game is very realistic." lol

Do y'all ever hear/see this? Does it frustrate you as much as me? I think it's possibly an adverse side-effect to the pro-gun crowd. Because of the misinformation and maybe (MAYBE) some dipshit kid will get someone hurt because they think their $300 AK will make that 750yd shot.

Maybe I just think too much.

Yeah, we hear all kinds of stuff down at the range like that. Also another group is the ones that know everything to the point that they can argue until they are blue in the face that CZ 75 grips will not fit on the CZ Kadet which is nothing more than a CZ 75 frame with a 22 lr. upper on it. But the grips are different because there is a minuscule difference between the center points of the screw holes moving the threads one thousands further back the the rear of the grip frame on the Kadet so they won't work.

I still look at that guy and laugh at him when he looks in my direction. Pisses him off to no end but screw em....

No sir, he fell into that bullet... Never argue with a stupid person. They'll just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience!!

But I will say, playing these goddamn games will make you question every technique you've ever learned. You try being all tactical, pieing corners and gaining positions of dominance in rooms, and some jagoff comes running up with an M249 and lays waste to everything. It's like "Wait, running around in the open, how the fuck do you make a headshot through a second story window while jumping with a belt-fed weapon?" It's aggravating.

Yeah, me too. My son wanted me to play the latest Call of Duty(?) game with him. I was doing the same. Pieing corners, move up to cover and crouch, checking the six. And I was getting wasted left and right. Not to mention my strategy often revolved about misconceptions of my weapon.

I had an AA12 at one point. A mother-effing AA12! I figured, 'Well, this makes the strategy easier'.
My mistake is associating the real gun to the video game. I would see someone in a hall before they saw me and back out and wait for them to turn the corner. Then I opened up on them. I THOUGHT a 12GA load of buckshot would be enough, but apparently in the game, everyone has steel skeletons. It would take 4-5 rounds to take a person down. In the meantime they would just walk up to me and knife me.

Then, of course you get all the shit talking. Makes me want to hold a paint ball tourney out in some woody land to teach these fuckers a lesson about the differences of video games and reality.

paint ball pizz off

bunch of drunks drove by our place last summer... looked like a Hollywood film shoot of ... wait for it.... drunks driving by your place.. (my best Clint E.. "get off my yard") ok enough...

deal is they drove up the mt and did the paint ball thing.. On the way out, and pretty sure they were WAY toasted by this time, the punks shoot like four or five rounds at our home.. two hit the house..

Didn't take it personally as we didn't know them, and were inside.. fact is we were about the only home to shoot at... but still drove me crazy..

got ALL worked up.. good for them they were gone before i could get out to the truck.. Otherwise they would have had to pay my hospital bills after they kicked my arse..

LMAO! Good stuff, Greg. Yeah, I'd have a hard time fighting the urge to fire back with the REAL stuff and try to convince the cops I thought I was in serious deadly peril. :D

Video games

my 15 yo son gets some pretty strange ideas from COD etc. but fortunately I have a decent assortment of weapons to shoot so that he can see the difference between fact and fiction.

The worst habit he picked up from the games is the 'spray and pray' mentality, not only is it hard on the wallet, it keeps dad chained to the loading bench for days on end. I told him if he didn't cut it out I would make him shoot one of my Nagants, hard to rapid fire an old bolt action...lol

I still have four pumpkins on my porch from when I took my boy to a corn maze and pumpkin patch. They're sorta there as bait. When I was a kid, growing up in rural Missouri, one of the passtimes these inbred heehaws liked to participate in was driving around and shooting people's pumpkins. My M4gery stays in the living room and woe be unto anyone who decides to blow up one of my "punkins". Now I just need to convert my deer grunt to work for calling drunk teenagers.

Teenager call

Runs, just use an MP3 player with a loopback of teenage girls giggling, water splashing, with a mix of 'Ooops, my top came off!' thrown in. They'll come in faster than the Chinese into the Iron Triangle, so you might need something full auto.

Good call, JM

Except around here, it's be hard to get an audio of everybody's sister or first cousin, so I won't draw them in very quickly.

Most of my experience has been more like " is this gun really that good?" or "is this gun better that this gun?". More questions about guns than beliefs about the merit. And my son smoked me on a regular basis when Halo came out, and knew nothing of tactics. I HATED getting sniped by a freakin PISTOL!!!!
