Comparing handguns

I have been looking at handguns for over a month and still cant decide. I have kinda narrowed it down to either glock, springfield xd or beretta in 45 acp, however some of the 1911's i picked up feel good too, especially the kimber and the sig. Picking a good all around pistol is damn hard. Can anyone give me some good advice?

Are you looking for a carry gun, or a full-size gun? For carry, Glock or Springfield can't be beat for capacity and reliability. If you are into a full-frame gun, Either of those guns will be good, or you may want to check out the Taurus 24/7 OSS. Taurus doesn't get the respect they deserve and the 24/7 uses a match-grade 5 inch barrel and 12 + 1 capacity. it feels wonderful in the hand, too.

Maybee a carry down the road. Thanks for the info, i will check out the taurus, regardless of what my "gun expert" friends say.

Most "gun experts"

are snobs who don't dare admit that brands like Taurus, Ruger, and Rossi are valid choices for defense. I'm a Glock lover, but have owned two Taurus pistols, and both were very reliable and gave me no problems at all

Can't go wrong with Taurus... I have one and love it...it's accurate and reliable. Kimbers are excellent.

the glock/XD will fell tremendously different than any 1911. I suggest that you try to rent a couple at a range and try them first. just remember... the glock/XD will always be reliable and give you more magazine capacity... the 1911 will be very accurate and smooth. Most 1911's only hold 8+1, but in reality, how many times are you going to need more than 9 rds. of .45ACP?

I really like all that you've mentioned with the exception of the Beretta. I own a nice 1911, but don't rely on it for defense... although its one of my favorite to shoot. I have my glock and sigs for defense. I am a glock lover, but really like the way the XD feels in .45. If you do go with a full size glock, check out the g21SF (slim frame), the regular g21 grips are ginormous!

good luck! eventually you will want them all
