Cosmoline Removal
I've used everything from boiling water, to lacquer thinner to brake cleaner. I want to hear what you all use. Maybe someone has a better solution! "Proelium Comminus Auctoritate"

The boiling water method is the best. You run the risk of messing up the finish on your stocks with the harsh chemicals. But the bonus with cosmoline it makes a great manly hand lotion that softens up the skin

I bought 3 sten mags and they came with that shiot on it. Only thing that got it off (last thing tried) was gun scrubber. Nasty shit hexandichlorobenzine use it outside becuase you can not get rid of the smell in the house.
scudrunnernrh
hoppe's #9 nitro solvent, works good for me.

This kind of crap can be "enjoyment" for anyone or anything.???????????????????
These folks have to be some REAL, REAL miserable people. I think if I were that low, miserable,
depressed or whatever? I would suck on my 44Mag & put a stop to it!!!!!

Kerosene? Its is good in parts washers on gunk build up on motor parts and such so might do good on cosmoline?
OozeRat
I think kerosine was the main component in hoppe's #9 please correct me if I am wrong.

Just thought I would add to the list here.

This is an old thread but thought I'd throw my 2 worthless cents in. In 2009 I went on a rampage and purchased 8 various SKS rifles. 6 of them had the dreaded cosmoline. After the third one, I tried Odorless Mineral spirits purchased in a gallon can at a Big Box home improvement store with a blue sign out front. That has worked the best for me. I disassembled and soaked the smaller parts and did a 'normal' type cleaning on the barrels and larger parts. The cosmoline came right off for me. After the first cleaning, I repeated with another fast clean using the OMS, then wiped down well and finished with Hoppe's #9. This was the most thorough and easiest method I found.

actually, wouldn't Gunk work?
