Hey everyone,

We are John and Cat, and we are new gun owners in San Jose, CA. We got referred to this site from a YouTube channel we subscribe to (The Armory Channel), and really dig the vibe around here. Anyway, we are learning about guns and so far we have in our collection:

Sig Sauer P226 9mm (his)
Sig Sauer Mosquito .22lr (hers)
Kimber Custom II .45 (his as of 1-8-11)
Remington 870 Express 20 gauge (hers)

We started our YouTube channel (jatchannel) to be a channel for other new gun hobbyists like ourselves who can ask the ridiculous questions such as, "What does 'sight picture' refer to?" or "What does 'single action' mean?" These are just a couple of the things we have been learning and hope to share with others in the spirit of making the gun community a place that welcomes new people. Additionally, John is a liberal who is also a gun enthusiast, so the politics of gun ownership and access are of interest to him.

We are excited about this forum and look forward to learning from and sharing with the gun community.

welcome

i believe the only stupid question is one not asked. i have never made fun of someone for asking even the most obvious, maybe when they ask the 3rd or 4th time but that is how you learn. nobody knows everything, there are some know-it-alls but they live in their own world. congrats on joining GL hope you enjoy it as much as i. word of advice tho, some of the pics on here can be VERY graphic. i think they can scare some and others it can give a very good respect with what they are dealing with. ( guns ) i have shown some but not all to my daughters so they know what will happen when someone gets shot. guns are not toys, but they can be fun.

just another day in paradise

Thank you...

for the warm welcome, button! We are looking forward to getting more involved here. Thanks for the warning on the graphic pictures too--we hadn't stumbled upon those quite yet, and frankly, I think we'd sooner avoid them. Anyway, we really appreciate the warmth we've received as newbies from the gun community!

Hey John and Cat

Pleasure to meet you both! I'm in Silicon Valley myself. I'm a really new member here as well, but it is a really cool spot. Be sure to drop a line on the Killer Toasters thread. I have a YouTube Channel as well and I just started making videos. I'll be sure to sub your channel. Have a happy new year and be safe.

And you know what...

makes our connection even more interesting? We both subscribe to the Armory Channel and found this site through Pete! Hey, it's a pleasure to meet you too, Todd (I have that correct, I hope). Enjoyed your Glock videos!

I have seen some pretty dumb questions actually get asked. But I don't imagine that'll be a problem with a couple who already have such a nice collection (1911 notwithstanding). If we don't know the answer to something, one of us will make something up and probably be pretty convincing about it.

Re: Dumb question

Well, I gotta tell ya, I think a lot of determining whether a question is dumb or not has to do with how you perceive the person asking. For example, if they are asking out of humility and sincerity, or if they r askin bcuz its kool 2 chat about gunz. =)

Anyway, we already feel comfortable around here to put our lack of knowledge on display--not because we are especially proud of it in its own right, but in the hopes of getting the input of more experienced shooters.

Thanks for the compliments to the gun collection!

Runs, owning a nice

Runs, owning a nice collection of firearms doesn't preclude someone from being an idiot or asking dumb questions. That being said, I think John and Cat are going to be a great addition to gunslot from their posts so far.

Welcome to both of you!

Much obliged...

Mattitude! We absolutely love meeting people like the ones who have so warmly made us feel welcome here. But your point about owning nice firearms and idiocy is duly noted! ;-)
