Cross roads of the west gun show 9/25/10
I met ecaman, Oozerat and their wives today and I must say that they are 'outstanding' people. I had a chance to talk to Bob at some length (as much as can be expected at a gun show) and his knowledge of guns is exceptional, I was truly impressed....... My original post on this subject is certainly lost in the 'banter', so I felt that it needed to be posted again, in it's own thread. It was a good day, even though I didn't drag a new gun home :-( Change you can truly believe in comes from the barrel of a gun---------------------------------------------------------------------------------Ron Paul 2012----Vote the bastards out!--------------------------------- |

It was GREAT to be able to meet Hampster and OozeRat (Dave) at the gun show, face to face, and to be able to have a good, long visit with Hampster (and a short one with Dave).
I'll tell you, people, these are some great guys. I was gratified, and humbled to be around them.
The show wasn't all that great, unfortunately. I don't know that Hampster saw anything at all he wanted. The only thing that I know that Dave bought was some 9 mm ammo, and not much of that.
The only thing I bought was an old Western knife, very slim blade, great condition, for my wife, who collects them. This makes 4 for her. She was really happy to get it, which made me happy.
I was looking for a good bore light, and there were NONE in the whole damn show. I went to every table. There was lots of junk, but no decent accessories. There was one entire table filled with beany babies and other small stuffed dolls! For God's sake - at a gun show? I was turned off to the point of being pissed.
I was hoping to find a Para Ord with the LDA trigger action. The only Para Ord in the show was a completely standard, 7-shot 1911.
I was hoping to find a Kahr PM-9. No luck. There were some Kahrs, but nothing I wanted.
Guns were really overpriced, in my opinion. New ones were right at the MSRP's. Any of us can beat that at our local gun shops. Most used guns were also overpriced. I saw a 4" blue Colt Python with about 50% finish priced at $900! There was an S&W Model 10 .38 Special, plain jane, one of maybe millions made, with about 90% finish priced at $310! This is about a $200 gun. One exception was a Browning BL-22, new in the box, priced at $450. Beautiful finish and wood.
Oh well, what the hell. I enjoyed meeting Hampster and Dave, and enjoyed going around and looking at everything. I'm glad I went.

you again to say 'glad to meet ya' but that place was grinding on me (as well as your wife, I know the signs..lol) Anyway, it was a great day!

I thought we decided the beanie babies and dolls and such were for target practice. Was my first gunshow but I was pretty unimpressed as well. I did see a kel-tech pf-9, probably gonna be my next gun, but the $399(higher than msrp) price tag really turned me off. Meeting Hamp and ecaman was by far the best part of the show. I don't know anything about borelights but would one of these work? http://www.opticsale.com/streamlight-stylus-reach-18-led-flashlight-blac...

Yeah, this should work well. I'm also going to look online at MidwayUSA. They always have good prices, and carry tons of stuff.
I was just pissed at not being able to locate even one of the most basic things we all should have.
And you're right, the beanie babies would make damn good aerial targets!

That site has good prices from what I've seen and gives free shipping for orders over $30, I'm going to be ordering some other stuff from them in the next few weeks and I'd be happy to add that to my order for you so let me know what you decide.

prices there,i expect them to be the same here,at least they were high last year,so i'm going to one here next weekend and see.Good you all got together for some time tho.

What a shame on the show.. But sure great the guys could get together.. Vaq and i were going to meet up last summer, and would have had it not been for my brother having his heart attack..
As an example of the prices, Bobs take on the model 10 is spot on, i bought one at the last show i attended just about a year ago down in Wickenburg. As Bob says there are more model 10 floating around out there than just about anything.. he was asking 220 for it (guessing he wanted 200) and i got it for just a tad under 200 (all i had left in my pocket). a fair price as it had a new parkerized finnish..

Next time you guys are down in the valley you should stop by and say hello... We have written back and forth enough, it would be good to put a face to the name... Spending time at guns shows is all fine, but I guarantee our prices are better on 90% of the items and we appreciate our customers...
You can call the shop at 480-988-7344 for directions anytime you like..

I live in Gilbert. I usually do my shopping at SGC and US Auto Weapons and buy ammo online, but if you can match or beat prices, I'm game. I'll stop by sometime. Is your address on your site?

I'm keeping my eye out for good gun shows in the area. I figure it's a good place to keep up with what's new out there. I'm willing to spend $400 on a good piece, but it has to be sighted really good for me.

Some of the best people i know run gun shops.. Don't know if you know any of the folks at J&G in Prescott.. Great folks and super milsurp prices..
When i was down in Tucson Jenson's was the big player.. Sorta unfair for other dealers, as Bob Jenson was the S&W wholesaler so obviously he was buying (least smiths) a lot cheaper than other stores.. Skipper.. Is Jensons still in bussiness down your way..
I have a bud "Roger" who owns the wickenburg gun store.. Great guy, and fair prices..
Bottom line you bet will look you up next time were down, and the son-n-law and i can go out and play.. We normally go over to Cabelas.. Where are you in relation to thier store off the 101..

JG has some good deals, I don't know about the other guys or who they are even, but it is good to hear you have found some good people to deal with. I remember buying guns before I was a dealer and so many seemed to be just outright rude to customers and annoyed that they had to remove their eyes from the computer screen to help anyone.
We have the best deal on an AR I have seen at $599.95 though... We actually scour the internet to make sure we have the best deal on our items, and we succeed 90% of the time... There are a few items we carry that we cannot get the price down that low but we have things in stock and are local to many people and whatever else they are getting is a good deal so they many times still ask for it. We try to have great deals though all the time the best we can.
We are also a distributor instead of deal for a few manufacturers and that does become the reason we can sell at those prices as well. Being a distributor gets you about 10-15% off dealer price which drops it quite a bit!
Just give a call when you are in the neighborhood and stop by our little showroom. Our showroom is small since most of our sales are internet based, or distributor to dealer.

You are so right TL if you don't have good customer service then you don't have shit. I have been in customer service for twenty years and nothing pisses me off more than poor CS. There is a local gun store here in SLC called Doug's shoot'n sports with piss poor CS, let's just say I will never go back. I was treated with an in no hurry to help you, condescending attitude and was made to feel like every question I asked was a foolish one. Some people need to realize that when somebody is about to drop $1000+ on a rifle they are going to have some questions that may seem stupid to the hardcore fanatic but they need to be answered with respect just the same.

I started with the idea of being a gun dealer because I had so many years of bad service and only a few positive experiences...
When you do find a good gun guy, he moves or quits and leaves you with the owner who is a grumpy ass that seems bothered to even see you in the store... I am a guy that walks in wearing a gun, and buys lots of guns so call me crazy if I expect good attention and to be treated like I am important..
My rule is simple in our shop: Our customers are the reason we are here... If they like us we can stay in business another 6 - 7 years and all pay our house payments, if not who knows what I would do with myself at this point...

customer service is something i look for,a good waitress gets a great tip from me,and bad one,not so good.I've been in several HD shops around the country and walked out of a couple pissed about their lack of service, last bike i bought i brought cash, couldn't get any help(hello, want to make a sale?) fuck it,i walked out, went to the next shop where i got treated right.I don't have a bad gun shop in the area, everyone is pretty damn easy going and helpful.
