[ Arkansas Democrat Gazette]:
Two local men were injured when their pickup truck left the road and
struck a tree near Cotton Patch on State Highway 38 early Monday.
Woodruff County deputy Dovey Snyder reported the accident shortly after
midnight Monday. Thurston Poole, 33, of Des Arc, and Billy Ray Wallis ,
38, of Little Rock , were returning to Des Arc after a frog-catching
trip.. On an overcast Sunday night, Poole 's pickup truck headlights
malfunctioned.

The two men concluded that the headlight fuse on the older-model truck
had burned out. As a replacement fuse was not available, Wallis noticed
that the .22 caliber bullets from his pistol fit perfectly into the
fuse box next to the steering-wheel column. Upon inserting the bullet
the headlights again began to operate properly, and the two men
proceeded on eastbound toward the White River Bridge ..

After traveling approximately 20 miles, and just before crossing the
river, the bullet apparently overheated, discharged and struck Poole in
the testicles. The vehicle swerved sharply right, exited the pavement,
and struck a tree. Poole suffered only minor cuts and abrasions from
the accident but will require extensive surgery to repair the damage to
his testicles, which will never operate as intended.

Wallis sustained a broken clavicle and was treated and released. "Thank
God we weren't on that bridge when Thurston shot his balls off, or we
might be dead," stated Wallis

"I've been a trooper for 10 years in this part of the world, but this
is a first for me. I can't believe that those two would admit how this
accident happened," said Snyder .

Upon being notified of the wreck, Lavinia ( Poole 's wife) asked how
many frogs the boys had caught and did anyone get them from the truck?
Though Poole and Wallis did not die as a result of their misadventure
as normally required by Darwin Award Official Rules, it can be argued
that Poole did in fact effectively remove himself from the gene pool.

[The News of the Weird]:
Michael Anderson Godwin made News of the Weird posthumously. He had
spent several years awaiting South Carolina 's electric chair on a
murder conviction before having his sentence reduced to life in prison
While sitting on a metal toilet in his cell attempting to fix his small
TV set, he bit into a wire and was electrocuted.

[UPI, Toronto ]:
Police said a lawyer demonstrating the safety of windows in a downtown
Toronto skyscraper crashed through a pane with his shoulder and plunged
24 floors to his death.? A police spokesman said Garry Hoy, 39, fell
into the courtyard of the Toronto Dominion Bank Tower early Friday
evening as he was explaining the strength of the buildings windows to
visiting law students. Hoy previously has conducted demonstrations of
window strength according to police reports. Peter Lawson , managing
partner of the firm Holden Day Wilson, told the Toronto Sun newspaper
that Hoy was "one of the best and brightest" members of the 200-man
association.

Coupe things.. all was well this morning ..By my last comment 5 hrs ago.. Then Gloria called from Prescott.. Come rescure me.. Seems the Impala was sorta like Pard, Hamp, and Brad were earlier.. Just not into that whole "work" thing.. So we just got back from a "rescue"..

The band is now playing HERE HE COMES TO SAVE THE DAY!!.. ok ok.. Anyway after having a one on one with Glorias Impala it saw the logic of my reasoning.. which was something like "start your overpriced ass working or im going to trade you in and send ya to that crushing machine"!!

The duramax is mine, the Impala is hers.. thats back in the day when we had some "resources" and figured we would buy a vehicle each, put the title in our pocket, and thats it.. my duramax has been perfect.. Glorias Impala has had some issues.. beautiful car, but a tad frustrating.. and she takes care of it well...

Nope after the "conversation" the problem sorta went away.. i got real lucky, it was an electrical problem that was nothing but a lose line... drained the batt.. amazing i found it, and of course acted like it was just skill on my part..

you guys know the drill.. you dont have to jump up and down and start yelling Man im lucky.. Just sorta act like its skill... between us guys i was REAL lucky to spot the line, and fix the problem..

Ok my friends.. say hi to Larry when he comes on, our pal got REAL lucky, and tell Pard to stick around a bit, ill try to make it back earlier.. Spent some time at a big gun store in Prescott after the big "fix" and have a story for Ecaman hes going to like..

in the 50's and 60's called it "Tri-power" for GM and "six pack" for Mopar but I don't remember Ford doing a 'three deuce' set up.

Hampster Thanks guy

I had forgotten that. I just remember the 3 deuces
were hell to keep in sinc but that mama ran

I had a 57-210 2dr ht until 3 yrs ago. Never really
likes it. HAD 4 wheel disc and a Hurst 4spd behind
a 327 with domes. I think the 58 could have taken it
but never got to try. Anyway I needed some cash to pay
off my farm when I retired and the 57 needed restoring so I sold it
to the 1st person the had 4k in his hand

Charles; I knew that!

Had a 62 tri-power Galaxie 500XL hardtop 406ci/405hp. I (foolishly) could make the front wheels jump off the ground. T10- tranny/Herz linkage. Wish I had that car back. Course, I could also watch the gas gauge go down.

Jesus Shuy, were

you running racing 'slicks'?........That was one heavy car to be lifting the front end on street tires (bias plies at that).........So Ford did have a 3 duce option (figured they did to compete).

I want it to Schuyler.
My first car was a 64 hard top 500 with the Windsor in it. T10 was only a dream for me in those days but did have a custom adapted C-6 behind it. Couldn't even think of touching that 62 Tri.
But to me those 60s were the car's. & what a long haul cruiser. Biggest hitter I ever had was a 66 Satelite custom 2 door. 426 Hemi, Miss that one the most, will look for the pics of these 2.

an 06' which he really likes and honestly the GM (Isuzu) 6.6, Fomoco (IHC) 6.0/7.3 and Mopar (cummins) 5.9/6.7 are all great engines. The problem is that the engine will out last the chassis, in 4WD configuration (what I deal with in UT), the suspension components of all three are horribly under engineered for the life expectancy of the engines (300,000 plus).

WOW!! what a thread..

Pards right, i was off and missed most of this.. Start talking tri powers, and T-10's and i get a woodie.. CW .. that 58, 348 tri power is my favorite.. didn't know you could get the 4 spd then, and even better.. Hamp as to the big ford.. thier weren't to many of the 406/405 combos out there.. and im sure Mike had to "bounce" do do it. but these big full size cars.. the full size Galaxies, mopars, the Pontiac Bonnie's 2x2, all these huge engine multi carb babies were amazing..

Most talk about the midsized, and they were great.. i had a couple of Mustangs.. But the sheer power and torque of those early 60's big boys is way under rated.. Most companies had an offering that could do 0-60 in under 5 sec..

Mike...yep my "max" is an 05.. way 600+ ft lbs torque.. it has a governor which might be wise considering how heavy (ie long to stop) a 3/4 ton truck is.. but pins me back in the seat and i get an honest 20 mpg.. so VERY happy with ours.. It's a ext cab.. pic on profile.. later guys..
