The Discovery Channel-New show "Sons of Guns"
I am under the impression these guys make custom weapons of any type or form. They are in the deep south and I hope it is a good show. Not like that stupid show called "Top Shot" what a waste of time. "We cannot defend freedom abroad by deserting it at home" Thomas Jefferson |

zx12rmike
January 12, at 10pm I had to look it up myself sorry!! You can find it and double check the time zone for your area.
luckybychoice
should of been about nothin but guns,i'll check out this new show though, thanks for the heads up.
zx12rmike
LBC, that is the part that pissed me off. They were trying to do that reality show drama crap and it just didn't work. We know there are only two types that like that drama crap. One is a female and the other acts like one.
dave329
Woo Hoo i will take anything about guns on TV sick of reality shows and sitcoms. Look forward to checking this one out!
tallguy007
if u do facebook they have a page there.ty

Sons of Guns shoot Reality TV show Hosts and Stars on TV!!!!
I'd watch!
button5560
what the hell is that? just kidding man. i will look for it. i was very dissapointed in top shot, and think gunslot should air a show. wouldn't that be the bee's knee's.
mattitude
Has this show been on yet? Does anyone have an opinion on it? I'm not really interested if its just more reality TV crap.
runawaygun762
I know parts of it were edited for drama, but even so, there wasn't nearly as much as there is on other reality shows. I'd like to see more dynamic shooting, like action pistol or three-gun type ranges, but it was good overall. There were a couple contestants I really didn't like, and one was probably due to the editing, but I look forward to season two. Is it out yet? i don't watch TV here, just movies. If they have a season three, casting should start about the time i get back and the wife said if I get accepted, I can use my PCS leave to compete.
Reaper308
I liked it too. Season 2 hasn’t aired yet, but I've seen some trailers for it
runawaygun762
Top Shot season 3 is already casting. Deadline for entry is Feb. Oh well, maybe season four.
hillbilly77
Of coarse like all reality TV there was drama that was not needed, but thats par for the coarse. I am looking forward to the next season thats for sure. I looked at getting into season 2, but man the requirements were alittle intrusive to say the least.
mattitude
I suppose I can deal with the drama of Top Shot as long as it opens up the shooting sports to more people
john kelley
How do you get into top shot. Where to apply wanna try when I turn 18?
CharlesW
I watch TOP SHOT on the outdoor channel
on Wed. Man that is some tough competition.
CharlesW
Get with Hillbilly on that
john kelley
Well eventually I wanna get on a rifle team but that could be after the military
CharlesW
Joined the team right after Army Basic Training.
I saw him shoot last week. Make me run and hide
john kelley
Haha lmao its what I wanna do so bad better start practicing
Reaper308
I saw Adam, Frank and Caleb from season 1 walking around at the show last week.
luckybychoice
saw it last night, they combined a shotty(Saiga 12 gauge) to an M4,kind of like a M203 setup, for Breaching doors without transitioning to either an M4 or handgun for the #1.All he had to do was shoot the shotgun, then change grip to the M4,kind of a cool show but where the hell do they find the characters,or does everybody fall asleep under a tattoo gun nowdays?
Reaper308
I saw it too. It should be interesting to see some of the stuff they come up with.
Ishootdaily
Imagine going to work each day and knowing you get to think up wild weapons and modifications, someone else pays for the stuff and you get to actually make it real....
Ishootdaily
LOL
With the guys I ran/run with, you could wake up looking like something out of Star Trek..
LOL

My first job out of college was with an explosives/weps firm. After taking classes from them, I just HAD to work there. Did for a short while, and really dug teaching SFX, trenching, breaching, and other explosives-related classes. We made their own brand of stun grenade, and the wall inside one of their bunker rooms looked a lot like the wall that Bill from RedJacket is frequently interviewed in front of. Gobs of suppressed, F/A, etc. guns that got used as demo, test bed, trade or training tools. We'd always shoot binary stuff with an M16 to show how stable it can be for legal agricultural uses, then whack dynamite with a suppressed .22 to show how sensitive it can be.
During LE trades, we'd wind up with 20 or 30k worth of ammo, ARs and M16s in piles, and equal amounts of stuff outgoing. The "good old days" indeed. We frequently got to use the old line "Hmm, ya think ya used enough dynamite there, Butch?". We shared a range with an awesome LE/mil training firm that I later trained with for that type of thing.
My job now is more rewarding and meaningful, but nowhere near as fun. I get to buy/build/use some cool stuff, but that's maybe 10-15% of the actual workload. The rest is about as pleasant as papercuts and lemonjuice.
As for the tats, etc.....Pantera was a hair band when I was growing up, and the tat/goatee/bald look was seen mostly in prisons. Times change, and some of the saltiest salt-of-the-earth guys are the tatted up freaks I know. Something about books, covers...?
I was glad to see that Sons of Guns was meaningfully edited....sure, most of what they do can be found in public info, gunshow books, FOIA, and patent diagrams, but I hate to see anyone have to deal with the feds for a homemade this or illegally-modified that.
I watched the 1st 2 episodes last night and will prolly record the rest.
luckybychoice
looking forward to the next episode, that really does look like a fun job, reminds me of when i was NCOIC of several weapons ranges when i was in the Corps, any time there was extra ammo, grenades,or shotgun shells we had a party! And i don't have any problem with tattoos,i've got enough of them myself.Just saying they sure are prevelant nowdays, and expensive.Good stuff you guys.
button5560
i want to go out in the parking lot and fire a grenade launcher. that looks like fun. now i don't want to sound lame or stupid and i know they put the shot gun under an m16 (i think that is what it was) and they talked like this was the first one ever made. i think it was super cool but don't they allready have something like that? i know there are single shots, so i would think the next logical step would be a bigger and/or auto rifle. i'm not real familiar with military weapons but that didn't seam like to far fetched an idea to me. don't get me wrong , i loved it and would love to have one (just in case my ex- brother in law gets to acting up). am i way off base here ? if i am i'm sure i came to the right place to get put back in my place. lol
CharlesW
mounts under an M16
CharlesW
by the M320 not up on today s stuff
Ishootdaily
FN has one if I remember correctly.
button5560
is that all that has been put under an m16? ther has never been a shotgun put under one before ? i was just wondering cause of the way they acted like it was a brand new idea, not that it isn't a good one it just kinda surprises me that it hasn't been done.
CharlesW
check it out
CharlesW
back in the 60s. We had a 40mm M79
grenade launcher, looked like a single
shot shotgun. I've read the M79 was more
accurate and I know it was easier to load
but with the M203 one man can carry both.
Ishootdaily
..
CharlesW
need 3 guys to carry ammo
luckybychoice
HE,WP,Flare, and fleschette(or shit round, you do not want to meet that one) am i missing some? If the Marine Corps wanted me to have other options they would have given them to me.
CharlesW
shoot man I've been out over 40 years
Ishootdaily
didn't they have a Teargas also?
CharlesW
The multi purpose would penetrate up to
3 inches of armor
Bad puppy
button5560
well i think you found it cw. the perfect home defence gun. not much gonna get around one of those. wish i could get one , don't know what i would do with it, but i want one.
luckybychoice
"Blooper "was the single shot 40mm grenade launcher used in Vietnam,i had one issued to me.While the M203 was around the Marines didn't get one(at least that i saw) until 1975-76.It was easy enough to load, although it was a single shot.I have shot lots of 40mm downrange with both the M79 and M203.The weapons on the show combined were the Saiga autoload, magazine fed 12 gauge and an M4,seems like a good combination to me.
CharlesW
I've lost the top header off GunsLot.
The section for log in is gone and
now looks like not able to post pics
HUMMM.
Yesterday I could click my name and
go to my profile, upload that way.
God I hate puters
Ishootdaily
I think there are a few bugs in the site that are being tracked down....
CharlesW
I attempted to delete a pic I had posted and
then this poped up. I don't know if I deleted
the header. Seems if I rebooted from google
it should work but not my luck.
Thanks
button5560

enjoyed the hell out of it.
CharlesW
and had a range in the basement for our
rifle team. We competed with 22s
john kelley
I would love to do that we have an rotc program at our school but I don't really tell or want people to know I wanna Join the military so I didn't participate in it. I'm glad you guys and my uncle are he to answer my questions about joining he was a srgnt in the 101st airborne division I wanna be like him someday
CharlesW
It used to be a good program. I know they
have made some major changes
john kelley
Well I don't even think they teach anything about guns or gun handling I definitely would if they did
CharlesW
We drilled with rifles, manual of arms and filedstriped them
every Friday and cleaned.
We had a rifle team and competed with 22s in the
school basement.
Ishootdaily
that used to run at schools and such and how it has changed so much these days. You know, the further the general public is pushed away from firearms and understanding of them the more it seems that the number of Gun crimes and dead kids rise.
I was given my first 22 at 8 and I actually was shooting before that... none of us kids would think of plating with a gun let alone actually do it...
john kelley
That sounds like it would be really fun did you see how fast you can strip your rifles I can break down clean and reassembled my ruger in under six minutes don't know if that's good
CharlesW
That's one rifle I really like.
john kelley
What kind of 22s did you use
CharlesW
with peep sight
john kelley
Bet they where pretty accurate how many kids did you compete against
CharlesW
I think it was 5 2in targets and 5 shots each
john kelley
I would be happy with a archery program let alone a competition shooting. well speaking of school I best be getting to bed have to be up soon g'night cw see ya tomorrow
runawaygun762
Like many people, I can say the military is the best thing to ever happen to me. It has given me a home, a purpose, it has made me part of a brotherhood that transcends normal barriers like race, gender, socioeconomic background, and even more importantly, it has allowed me to daisy chain 16 claymore mines and blow them at once, ten sections of bangalore torpedo at once, an 18 pound satchel charge, and an 11 pound frame charge (Normal frame charges use about four pounds, depending on the wall to be breached). And that was all in one day.
I have had a soldier who was a Brazilian citizen, we had a soldier who was from South Africa (the only true African-American I know, and he's white), I have had a soldier who was a former gang member from NYC, a pothead from Tucson, a former graphic designer from St Louis, and of course my wife, an inbred heehaw from bumfuck Missouri who grew up referring to blacks as niggers. The only thing these people have in common is that I would trust any of them to back me up in a firefight, no questions asked.
I will tell you that military life is not glamourous, it's not always high-speed, and it's nothing like you see in the movies. It's mostly boring, in fact. But when you are deployed, a "bad day at the office" is the stuff that causes some people to fold up and quit and causes others to let loose that warrior inside them. We have bullshit, we have incompetent leaders, and we have shitbags. The US military is a cross-section of American society. As a military policeman, I have dealt with drug dealers, child molestors, rapists, and murderers in uniform. They give us a bad name, but I truly believe that soldiers, as a whole, are a better class of people than civilians. But I admit to being a bit biased there.
One common thing said by most servicemembers who have received awards for heroism or valor is that they only did what others would have done if they were in the same position. This is absolutely true. From day one as a young infantry private in the 101st, the "Three M's of leadership" was drilled into my head; Mission, Men, Me. Every soldier's priority should be in that order. The mission comes first, above all else, including our own lives. After that, our comrades' welfare and safety take priority, and then we can worry about ourselves.
I forgot who first said something about uncommon valor being a common virtue, but it is absolutely true when soldiers are put in impossible situations. We feed off of each other. One moment, your buddy might be rock solid, urging you along, telling you "Don't quit, we're almost there", and the next moment, it might be you doing exactly the same for him.
If you are prepared to commit everything, including your life, in the service of your nation and your battle buddy, then I look forward to hearing that you've joined (I'll retire in 5-7 years). If you aren't able to make that committment, then go to college, make lots of money, and support your nation in any other way you can.
Shug22
Great post and comments. I agree with you; spent 4 years in and I thank you for making this your career. God Bless you.
Reaper308
Did anyone just see the episode where they released the folding flashlight gun? Are they not aware that Magpul released the FMG9 at SHOT 3 years ago? (we have a video of it somewhere on the site)
http://magpul.com/pdfs/fmg9.pdf
I'm not really trying to knock those guys, but they portrayed it on the show like they came up with the concept and developed something new.
Ishootdaily
Yea they do some fantastic stuff for sure. But I've yet to see an original system of their own design and concept....
Hell they even used the concept and design for the M203 on the Breaching AR they built, think they used an M203 mount modified didn't they?
Again, as Reaper points out, not talking anything from them, but....
luckybychoice
but i think that show has run it's course, but did you see top shot? damnit! choke!
Reaper308
yea. I was disappointed. Jay is a panzy ass. Change your F'N tea cup grip already and quit crying!
Mark3030
I like the shooting on top snots, but i don't care for the interactions of the shooters or their personal thoughts on each other.
Ishootdaily
I think they could really up the ratings and people wanting to apply by switching to live fire Simunition... It would be the best yet!
Head to head, first shooter all out conflict....
Mark3030
i agree 100% now we would be seeing something might be like watching Tom knapp compete with them
luckybychoice
simunitions....hmmm,maybe onto something. But seriously, how is all those guys on top shot didn't gang up on Jay"the golfer" and rub him out "just cause"??? i would like to see his demo tape when he applied to be on the top shot show,if the producers saw that cup and saucer grip and let him fly....lucky bastard does not choke tho.
Ishootdaily
It is the old Bulls Eye and Target grip of old...
I mean it is dated for sure, but worked in the past I guess...
I'm not sure I trust the Golfer to be telling the truth about never shooting before the show started. I mean, trigger control has absolutely nothing to do with a Golf swing..
