Doe a Deer

so i wasn't gonna say anything about it but when i told my son he laughed his ass off,so i thought i'd pass this along.

True, just happened to me yesterday afternoon,i was driving my Van,about 8 car lengths behind this woman,we we're at a light together, she was pulling away from me,blabbing on her cell phone, going down a 2 lane backroad.I noticed some deer coming out of the woods, she didn't.3 went across the front of her and she tagged one good,it went cartwheeling over to the other lane and layed there trying to get up.The lady pulled her car over and started to get out,i pulled over to ask her if she was allright. She gets out saying"oh my gosh,oh my gosh, look at that deer,i didn't see any deer, look at my car!"well her headlight and grill was smashed on the drivers side.

Meanwhile i'm eyeing the deer,no visible blood, eyes open, and wide eyed.jerking like it's gonna get up,but can't,i'm thinking broke back( and not in a Ebear and Runs kind of way either)
So i walk up to it and the lady is watching me going"can you put it out of it's misery? Are you gonna choke it? I didn't reply, but i was thinking, yeah right ,choke a deer. The deer could not get up and was not struggling as much.I wanted the deer to get up but i thought if i drug it over to the side of the road at least it wouldn't get hit again,so i told the deer not to kick me and grabbed it's back hoofs, which it let me do,which was a bad sign, animals struggle until they die from my experience as a hunter.

So now the deer is at the side of the road and i drug a blood trail with me,so i knew the deer was a goner and the lady had not really shut up about choking out this deer all this time(less than 5 minutes). That swhen another car pulled up and this guy gets out, kind of eyeballs the situation, looks at me and says"i've got some gloves in my car you can use if you want to choke out the deer". What effing movie did these two ever see where a deer got choked out? I mumbled something about not being a WWF wrestler and bent down again, sizing up the deers situation,i decided to put it down using my knife, the deer let me run my hand along it's neck and i felt a pulse,I decided to bleed it out, instead of plunging my 4 inch blade repeatedly into it,so i slit it's throat.

Blood spurted everywhere,i slit the windpipe too,and i was pretty pissed off by then, the deer folded in seconds so i was glad of that anyway and the lady had now started to say "poor deer, thank you" but i just walked to my van got some rags out of the back, wiped down my hands and left.

Thanks Jerry..

Just that simple huh.. Hard, i don't care how many tags you've filled.. Fact is you gave that animal a better ending than it would have starving with a broken leg.. Still sorry that you had to do it bro, every time I've put an animal down it's been hard, just glad you were there for it..

Whats with the "strangle thing" you MN types must have some awesome grips.. Sheesh talk about putting an animal in terror..

Gloria has never killed an animal before, but years ago after i taught her to shoot, and she had started carrying in her vehicle, i remember her saying "I'm so glad i don't have to ever worry about letting an animal suffer again" Don't know how that would go, you guys know what im talking about here.. Poor crippled dog or deer would probably die of heart attack having bullets bouncing around it before being hit, and I'd be "grief counselor"

If you guys are anything like me you've had to do your own share of self "grief counsing" after putting an animal down.. I had to shoot my beloved pal Sandy that we took after Mom died.. She made it for another 6 years with us, and was 17, but it sure was hard..

LBC, good job. The stangle thing is a new one for me too!
I've "put down" my share. Its easier when all involved know its better this way. But sometimes it still aint easy.

LBC why did'nt you

Load her up and eat her. Heck I have eaten many road kill, and that was a prime road kill cause you knew for sure it was really fresh. I am in high agreement that you did the right thing by ending her suffering. In my neck of the woods the state says it is illegal for a citizen to dispatch injured game that has been hit by a vehicle, but I always kill them if I see an animal suffering.

you can

but you have to get a county or state trooper to get a tag from to make it legal,i didn't have time to wait around+ no room to haul it,i was partly pissed at the waste too,i knew it could be good.I helped a trucker a few years ago, load up a deer he had hit.he said i hit,i'm taking it home

When I was 12 years old we had stopped to pick up a fresh road kill. Some asshole took down my Mom's plate number and reported us. The next day a sheriff showed up confinscated all the meat gave my Mom a fine, but he was nice enough to tell us that the meat was going to be fed to the inmates of our county jail. To this day I would like to get ahold of the asshat that turned us in.

Damn deer tried to run off with my last arrow! I'd hit the lil' forked horn mule deer too high and the broadhead stuck in his spine, not severing his spinal cord, and off he went.....faster than I could run 'till he tripped over a strand 'o barbed wire and went down, and before he could get going again I dove on to his back and stuck his antlers into the dirt, grabbed for my knife...........but it had fallen off during the chase and I was left with a kickin' screamin' crazy @ssed deer! So I tried to choke him out.......His eyes would roll back and his tongue would come out and he'd buck me off and I'd have to chase him down again and start over. Finally I took off my belt and tied his front hooves up under his chin. found my knife and finished the ordeal............He tasted kinda gamey.

Which Tarzan was that?
I can't even imagine how awful it would be to be charged by a rhino. I wouldn't trust myself with any firearm to stop one. I know that people have shot them for over a century, but that's other people, not me. If I were being charged by one, I'd want to be in a tank. I think that if I were on foot, the principal weapon I'd favor would be a flame thrower.

If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and a man. (Mark Twain).

I posted my comment to Lucky and punched out, so this is the first time im reading it. One long and not so good day guys with the exception of Pards call..

I've got to tell you that im steaming about WA.. I would bet money that the green, Eco lov'n, plant hug'n, animal rights groups just got all in a tizzy about that "humane kill" thing.. Somebody's going to kill Bambi before a vet gets there, or it's just knocked out, its going to shake it off, and get back in the game, or it will heal itself..

I'm writing this like im making a joke, but im really sick to my stomach.. This is SICK.. They passed a law that lets an animal suffer because some helicopter parent is afraid thier precious baby is going to be traumatized by seeing an animal put down, or they believe one of my absurd "joke" reasons..

This is about the saddest thing I've ever heard.. We all have a duty, least those of us that have a set to do exactly what Lucky did.. It's not pretty, but it is all thats good, decent, and humane..

Wrong answer

You would have to crush the trachea. I was young , fairly big (6' 2"-190#) and full of adrenalin and I could't barely dent that thang............Try it next deer ya get..........Maybe I was using the wrong technique (I ain't a cop)............As for roadkill.....When I was a kid growing up in the Sierra's my Dad would bring them home or get called when somebody saw or hit one, and late one nite he found out about one (a fawn), field dressed it, wrapped it up in a sheet and hid it under my bed...........Well my mom found this bloody sheet with a carcass in it the next day and FREAKED OUT!!!!!...Wouldn't let Dad in the house for days...........

ha ha.. yep men and womens humor is NOT the same.. I'm married to one of the few women that like the 3 stoges (why she married me huh..what ever) and thats only sometimes, and if the mood is right.. Guys ALWAYS like the stoges..

That thing with WA still pizzes me off.. No reason to pass a law (hillwilliams comments above) to stop humane dispatch of an injured animal, the logic of it says something about anyone that could pass such an act.. No logic..Sure confirms other things i've heard about the state and its ultra liberal leanings.
