Dosvedanya, Makarov!

After 61 years the Russian Army, formerly the Soviet Army, is replacing their iconic Makarov pistol, adopting the 9mm Strizh as their new sidearm. If I have my facts straight, which I usually do (lol), the Makarov was the longest currently serving military sidearm in the world, perhaps the second longest serving ever behind the 1911 .45 our boys carried for 75 years. the article from guns.com is on the link below.

Oops!

Seems I need to self correct: The 1911 .45 or GI .45 as it's more commonly known is NOT the longest serving military sidearm in history. That honor in fact goes to the Webley Revolvers carried by our British friends from 1887-1963. My bad!

The 1911 is still currently in service. It's just not general issue now.

Okay

That is true, score one point for StJMB in the nitpicker's ball, lol. I should have clarified that this was as the primary sidearm. My bad!

BTW, there is NOTHING like a 1911. NOTHING.
