Hey Doc, I have a Plantar wart on the ball of my foot an going into Podiatrist to have removed. I remember as a kid I had 2 removed, 1 burned with acid, other burned out with xrays of some sort. They put a lead shield on my foot with a little hole in it and zapped it. Everyone else left the room, so I am sure it wasn't good for you.
Anyway what is the best most effective and painless to me, way to remove, remembering that I am a Type II Diabetic.
Thanks,
samD

Sam's Consult

Hey Sam. Stop stepping on frogs and you won't get any more warts. But, seriously, they are hard to get rid of on the bottom of the foot. The virus that causes them goes deep into the tissue and the skin is so thick on the bottom of the foot, it's hard to get to. With my patients, I usually try a combination of cryosurgery- freezing with liquid nitrogen- which really just burns and doesn't hurt that much- and then I write them a prescription for 40% Salicylic acid. Usually within 3-4 weeks, the wart is gone. For troublesome warts that don't go away with this method, I usually excised them completely and suture them up. That however, requires local anesthesia, which honestly the needle in the bottom of the foot hurts like hell. I'd try the cyrosurgeyr first. I'm trying out a new compounded medication a pharmacy is making for me that combines salicylic acid and 5-Fluorouracil. So far, it looks very promising. Hope that helps.
