Dubuque Marine wounded
Lance Cpl. Christopher Billmyer lost his legs after an explosion in Afghanistan, his parents say. A Dubuque Marine was seriously wounded Saturday in Afghanistan. Marine Lance Cpl. Christopher Billmyer was hit by an improvised explosive device in the southern Afghan province of Helmand. Billmyer sustained injuries in the explosion that required the amputation of both legs, according to his parents, Jim and Cheryl Billmyer, of Dubuque. Billmyer, a 2007 graduate of Wahlert High School, enlisted in the Marines in 2007 and is an infantry assaultman in Lima Company. He had been in Afghanistan just a few weeks, according to his parents. The Helmand province has been the site of numerous insurgent IED attacks on U.S. forces in recent months. Jim Billmyer said his son was flown to Germany for medical treatment and will be airlifted to Bethesda, Md., this week. Please pray for Christopher and his family. Thanks guys! |
