Does anyone out there have any experiance with duracoat finishes? Is it good stuff that lasts, or crap that chips/wears off? Is it worth the money to camo a weapon or is it just one of those goofy fads? Let me know what yall think. We're not going to just shoot the sons-of-bitches, we're going to rip out their living guts and use them to grease the treads of our tanks. Gen. George S. Patton |

I thought about duracoating my Bushmaster, but read an interesting piece in SWAT magazine about a guy who uses krylon spraypaint on his rifle. I have a "rubber duck" M16, so I bought tan, brown, and OD green paint and experimented with it before applying it to my real rifle. It looks really good. Not as durable, and not as even as duracoat, but at 12 dollars for three cans and a truly personalized weapon it worked out real well. But then, I also see my guns as tools and toys, not as pieces of art and I'm not too worried about screwing up the resale value. My wife was apprehensive about letting me use 12 bucks in paint on a 1600 dollar Bushmaster/EO Tech combo, but she said she was impressed with it too.

Post a picture of it for us to see.

i do camo finishes as one of the mainstays of by business and used to use Duracoat finishes. it is of good quality and is very durable.
i soon found out that the cost was such a factor that i could not make a profit from my work.
typically it will cost 50.00 to finish one rifle with duracoat. if you are doing this just for your rifle then it isn't too out of reach, but i sell finished stock sets (new) and it wasn't cost effective.
i did some R&D on several types of paints and found a few types in DuPont acrylic that work just as well as the duracoat.
this finish, as is duracoat, is VERY durable and long lasting. you can beat and bang it around with no damage unless you hit it on a sharp edge.
i have hunted with my AR (i mainly sell AR stocks), leaned it against trees, laid it on the bench rest, carried it in my vehicle, and you just cant hardly beat it.
