The Emerging Middle East
OK guys--I am calling for a first level GunsLot defcon. If you thought the "middle east problem" was/is complex, look what's happening now. The Israelis will never allow that to happen, even if their populous is decimated. I predict they would make the fanatical Japanese look like games players, and IMHO, at this very moment we are closer to a widespread conflagration in the middle east than we have ever been--and it is the Israelis who will be the preemptive aggressors---Obama or no Obama. Some might say, "So what? Let them blow each other to kingdom come!!". It ain't that simple. A little forethought tells you the aftermath would probably mean WWIII, if for no other reason, to gain control of the oil and other resources. "Hegemony" has been a dirty word when the discussion turns to international events. We may have to learn to consider its meaning, seriously, in light of what is going to be upon us, soon.

It's not politically correct to say we are at war with islam.
We ARE at war with islam.
Israel has no options, they must win at all costs or cease to exist. If that means using nuclear weapons I would expect them to not hesitate.
The only way Israel can be spared all-out war is to put ourselves between them and our enemies.

I doubt that we will have the chance to get in the middle. First- It would be politically inexpedient, harking back to the Gulf War, then shock and awe, then the two Afghanistans. Second, I doubt we have the resources, and the resolve. Third, there is still a good bit of sentiment nationally and internationally, that says, "who cares what happens to them--they're jews--they are always making trouble".
Certainly, a message from the US that we would intervene swiftly and without restraint, would cause anyone who is not psychotic, great pause. But my guess is the Israelis are going to steal the march and strike swiftly and comprehensively, giving no quarter.

I have no particular reason to be fond of Jews other than they are God's chosen people and because their enemies around the world want them extirpated.
Beside that, I like seeing the little guy kick the shiite out of the big ones.

THEY WILL kick the feces out of a lot of big guys, or die trying. I hope the first will be that nutty Iranian Ayatollah and his psychotic "President", Ahmedinejad. I believe that if the Iranian people can be properly supported, they will take back their country and create a genuine republic. That would solve one of the nastiest of Middle East problems. One could even fantisize an alliance between Iran and Israel. The media would immediately name it, "Isquared".

I do not speak haji, so I am not claiming to know everything about the passage. It might be true that I wrote one possible translation; however, just because you might "usually" find the last word as friends, does not make it correct. You usually read that the United States government is a democracy.

It is actually amusing to me that there is a discussion of the proper use of a passage in the koran, when you can look to the bible and see many interpretations as well. I can agree with LBC on how I understand haji...BOOM, or a well placed cat sneeze will do the trick also (suppressed shot).

you pays your money and takes your choice. I have noticed a plethora of apologetics concerning whether Koran translations were REALLY correct, and therefore we poor dumbass dimmi, infidels will never understand what Islam really stands for.
