I do not get it either now but will. My two uncles fought in that war, uncle Louie was one of five that made it off pork chop hill. uncle Jake did fight for the term. My Uncle Loie said that the movie was wrong and they found him and four others under a pile of bodies with chinese using their bayonets stabbing everyone to make sure they were dead, and then reinforcements finnally came, and got them to back off. He said they never stopped ,coming day and night, they even pissed on the barrels and ran out of ammo and hand to hand and finnally overrun, bodies everywhere. He lived about 6 years after as a grass cutter for expreeway in jersey only hired decorated vets, then had a brain hemmoridge and lived but spent rest of life in VA hospital in nort Jersey as groundskeeper. He was stuck mentally back in 1952, and untill he died at 69 yrs old he thought it was 1952 and was fighting in korea and on leave and ordered to keep grass cut and things like that. They used to show his and four others name that made it off that hill on end of movie credits. But I don't know anymore. It starred Greggory peck. His Name was Lois J. Carmansgt us army jlc

Korea was nasty for sure. Being first in line means that not only was the fighting tough but they didn't have Winter clothing when the cold weather rolled in too. I just watched a show about a bunch of Korean War Vets returning and actually meeting some ROK's who they had fought against and how they all became friends. The opposing perspectives of the battles they fought against each other.

The only ones who came out of that War in anything a person could consider good shape were the ones sitting in chairs fighting the Way with ball point pens....

Actually, with what went on there, it is rather shocking that the Military seemed to forget what it was like to fight a people with the Asian outlook when we entered Vietnam. Almost like they had to learn it all over again.

command and control

and communications. They had some of the brightest combat proven leaders from WW2 leading in Korea, yet some egos got in the way(pretty sure nothings changed since as far as that goes).Stretched supply lines and troops being funneled down roads due to rugged terrain made for some of the worst conditions imaginable during wartime.tough deal for sure.

It seems to be something that gets repeated throughout the history of War too.
