Fire Lapping a bore

I know you fire lap a bore to clean it up and smooth out minor pits and burrs, but does it work well for breaking a barrel in? I got my 223 dies today and I need to help the wife break in her Rem 700

i would break in the barrel with normal 5 shot then clean procedure then after a 100 rounds or so see how it shoots it may not even need to be fire lapped

It doesn't need it

So fire lapping doesn't have any benefits over and above the normal break-in process?

fire lapping

is from what i know a way to improve accuracy in a barrel that is not that great.it will clean it up by polishing it to help improve accuracy.used on barrels with poor machining.

you take between 15 and 25 bullets and put them in groups of five. Each group gets rolled in an abrasive paste of finer and finer grit. You seat the put the cartridges together and fire three to five goups, depending on how many levels of past you have. It's basically polishing your bore by firing sandpaper bullets down it. It's supposed to be great for restoring old or fouled bores.

You have friends? What's that like?
