Hi all I am looking into getting a fullsize pistol. I am open to all suggestions. I am leaning toward something with high capacity and fairly cheap ammo, but not a requirement. thanks

p250 is always good cause you can customize it. I also like the p226 and if you want a hi cap mag w/ cheap ammo check out a 9mm

Reaper set me on a Glock 21 SF and I had the pleasure of shooting both a standard 21 and the SF today. I'm fully convinced the SF is a perfect full size pistol, and .45ACP is not too bad on the wallet either. You can't take away from any Sig though, especially the p250!

I love the looks of walther p99, but for quality, reliability and knock down power go glock 21, 20. I love my glock, hits the target where i aim. All ammo I use have fed. I get groups dead on at 25 yards. That rules. With a hand gun I just do not expect to have both precision and accuracy at that distance. I will go out further with it after hunting is over.
The P99 doesnt give me the accuracy I want. I am pie plating at 25 yards. But its tits up. Beautiful weapon, 9mm is fun to shoot.

That XDM looks awsome, but that p226 looks pretty good to, so guess ill have to go fell them out and of course theres a 1911 in the running (just love the history of the gun). Never been a fan of glocks, just too ugly for me i guess. Just wish I had more $$. thanks for the suggestions guys

unless you are married to the idea of a double action or a double action/single action, or unwilling to get comfortable with the 1911 weapon system, the 1911 single action is still one of the best around. You can get it in 9mm, .40, and .45, as well as 38 Supert, and in sizes from the equivalent of the Officer's model 3.5" barrel, Commander 4" barrel, or government model 5" barrel or combinations of full size grip and 4" - 4.5" barrel/slide. Look at STI, Kimber, Colt, Paraordinance, etc. You can also get ambidextrous safety and/or magazine release, and many other custom features to meet your individual tastes and needs. There are also many great gunsmiths that can build you a custom gun.

I have one full size in .40 with a hybrid compensator match barrel single stack magazines (9 rounds + 1) extended mag releasem extended thumb safety,Bomar adjustable sights, etc.; this one was converted from 10mm Delta Elite

I liked the first one so much I had another one built with full size double stack (STI frame and Caspian slide, hybrid comp match barrel 16+1, bomar sights, extended mag release and thumb safety, etc.

These guns are great!! I just went through 5 days at Front Sight Firearms Training Institute in Pahrump (just outside Las Vegas, NV) with no problems.

I am now looking for a carry gun (1911 of course) probably Commander or Officers size, and am looking at the Kimber, Springfield, of STI as my first likely choices.

btw - if you have not looked at Front Sight for exemplary training, at least go to the web page www.frontsight.com

My opinion on any pistol is the Glock. For the full size gun, I recommend the G17 in 9mm, or the G21 in 45. I don't like the 40 S&W, as the recoil is a bit too snappy and it actually feels like it has more recoil than the 45 ACP. I have heard nothing but good things about the G21SF, but can't comment on it as I have not fired it yet. The 9mm is about the least expensive ammo out there, with a 100 rd value pack of 115 gr Winchester FMJ going for 19.96 at Wal-Mart here. With a full size gun, you have a huge variety of quality defense ammo available, with Cor-Bon's excellent +P loading and Speers Gold Dot HP. Beretta is also a very good choice, provided you don't mind the DA/SA trigger.
