We spent Sat at Prescott shopping, did the ACE hardware, and Walmart thing.. I'm was in Glorias way in Walmart, so told her i'd meet her outside, and swung by sporting goods to see if they had ammo in stock... Surprise Surprise (remember Andy G) they did, but at STUPID prices. like 19 bucks for 50 rounds of 38..
So i go outside to get the truck ready and figure i'd call pard.. hadn't talked to him in a while, and Gloria had said we were going to send he and the lovely Mrs Vaquero an anniversary present (something cheap ass) to show our appreciation as he had to get a second mortgage to cover the shipping on the 11 pounds of padre plinkers he sent me.. (plus the new high prices at walmart made them a REAL good deal) So long story short...yeah right..
Pard calls me back and im telling him how even Gloria noticed how perfect they were as he had every case polished, and i took the opportunity to show her the little things to look for that show craftsmanship.. I then remembered a REAL embarrassing thing that happened down in Tucson back in the mid eighties..
A PPC and Bowling Pin group had formed, these were all SERIOUS shooters, and most rolled thier own ammo. At the time i had a Combat Cdr i had put bowmar sights on, and the usual things we did.. extended slide release, beveled mag well..I made a mistake on the piece as it was a light weight and NOT quick to get sight picture on second shots, but great to carry, and i could stay competitive with it.. At this same time my brother Gary (still in nursing home) was starting to reload, so he tells me to bring him down brass.. I brought down brass, and some 230 gr rounds.. Next week i go down and pick them up.. i could hardly weight to meet the boys at the range, Gary had talked about weighing powder etc.. so i was stoked..
Get out there, and pull them out of the box.. naturally i had been talking this up to the boys at the range.. The bullets started falling out of the cases.. Bub hadn't crimped a one of them.. If you can imagine my expression.. ive got bullets and powder falling all over.. The only good thing was i didn't bs and say i had loaded them, but after bragging about my Officer serious shooter brother.. the boys got a hoot out of it.. One of them made a bid deal about trying to scotch tape them in the cases.. it was really pretty funny.. Anyway, Pard.. i love them buddy!
a man has to hold his word, hold his beliefs, and hold a good sight picture.
