glock 25?

a G25 is .380, and very hard to come across in the states...

Did you mean Glock 23? If so, I have a gen 3 G23. It's not my favorite range gun, but its a great carry gun. Very reliable and always goes bang. Easy to find conversion bbls for it also.

why is that? Did the all knowing ATF again decide that we are too moronic and incompetent to have these?

It's prohibited because of the 1968 GCA. Even though it's the same frame as the G19, the smaller .380 doesn't meet requirements for a sporting round or something of that sort. There were guys on another board discussing this, and one said that even G19's have to be imported with some sort of adjustable plastic sights to pass inspection, but then are fitted with the glock factory sights in the states before sale. Not sure how much truth there is to that. From what I understand, G25's can be imported and sold to LEA's who can sell their surplus to civilian market, I just don't think there are enough agencies buying them to actually have a surplus.
I still think mainecathunter was referring to a G23 because of the .40 comment, and its basically the same size as the G25.

This is complete nonsense. I wonder how long it will be before the NRA gets around to starting the process of getting this repealed. The 2nd amendment has no qualification for sporting purposes. I doubt our founders even considered that when ratifying this.

I totally agree SJMB

Unfortunately it's been 45 years in this particular case and nothing has been done as of yet. If they really gave a shit about our constitution, we wouldn't have any gun CONTROL acts (it's all about control) or half of the restrictions we do as a society. I've lost all faith in our government's interest in our constitution and freedom of the sheeple. Their agenda to create a master government or some sort of Wells' NWO/1984 police state type society has ended all hope of individualism and a free society. We are well on our way with the creation of this new super congress. Once the economy finally gives in we'll look to this super savior to come from the sky and rescue us, probably giving birth to a whole new "bill of rights" which won't resemble the original in the least bit. Depressing. Just watching the market makes me want to convert my worthless pieces of paper to gold, silver and other precious metals. Sorry for rambling. I'm just a looney. Maybe.

No, you're not looney. I used to worry about that of myself as well. Then I realized that my fear of appearing fanatical/fringe/crazy blinded me to what was really happening.

I'd convert those useless IOUs into lead. That's going to be the real precious metal. ;)

Glock 23 in .40

Yes, I have a Glock 23 and I love it. It's a Gen3 and I also have a Glock 27 Gen4. On both of them I have modified the trigger connector to use either a Rocket or Ultimate, both in 3.5lb, and have also replaced the groved triggers with smooth ones. My Glock 23 has a Crimson Trace lasergrip on it, which is pretty awesome. In addition to helping you shoot when you can't use the sights for some reason, it also helps you during practice by showing you how your pre-fire flinches are affecting the aim.

I've shot pretty much all kinds of ammo through it, other than steel case. It consumes cheap Winchester White Box just as nicely as the finest JHPs. I put a Hogue grip on it at first, but had to remove it to fit the Crimson Trace.

Any specific questions?

G23 is OK, but......

G23 is OK, but if you want a .40 cal, I think the S&W M&P is a smoother .40 cal pistol - just feels a little more balanced.
I have a G23, I just don't like it as much as a Smith M&P - but I like my Glock 19 (9mm) better than the 9mm M&P

Glock / S&W

I like both over all, but prefer the M&P hands down in 9/357/40/45.

The Grip being the deciding factor after that the Sights, the beaver tail, the trigger, oh hell. The whole damn firearm... hehe

No seriously, I like the Gen 3 23 in either 40 or with the conversion barrel for either 9 or 357 installed just as well as the M&P.

45 hands down for me is the M&P...

ISD and the M&P

ISD,
I was fixin to purchase an M&P in .45. I was not impressed with the trigger reset. I felt like Glock still had the superior trigger. I realize this is subjective and I am not trying to start an AK versus AR debate here. Do you know if there are kits or ways a gunsmith can tailor the trigger group on an M&P?

thanks

on one of the Wednesday night gun shows about exactly what you asked about. John Scouten actually modified the M&P trigger primarily to improve the reset. I do not remember who made the kit, but you could probably contact the producers to get the info.

http://www.apextactical.com/ Makes a kit which turns it into a fast smooth trigger, hell they even do it for Glocks.

Apex M&P Services
Apex Level 1 Trigger: $125 plus s&h
This package includes installing the Apex Hard Sear and Ultimate Striker Block kits only. The Apex Hard Sear and trigger bar are polished to run as smoothly as possible as part of this service. This will result in a 4.0 lb trigger pull weight.

Apex Level 2 Trigger: $150 plus s&h
This package includes installing the Apex DCAEK Kit (Hard Sear, Ultimate Striker Block and Spring Kits). The Apex Hard Sear and trigger bar are polished to run as smoothly as possible as part of this service. This will result in a 5-5.5lb trigger pull weight.

Apex Level 3 Trigger: $175 plus s&h
This package includes installing the Apex Comp AEK Kit (Hard Sear, Ultimate Striker Block and Spring Kits). The Apex Hard Sear and trigger bar are polished to run as smoothly as possible as part of this service. This will result in a sub 3.0 lb trigger pull weight **Competition use only**

You can buy the parts and do it yourself to keep price down. Hell you can polish it up and it is not too bad without any added or changed out parts.

Have you tried the Springfield XD (or XDm)?
It's trigger is like the Glock, but I like the handling/feel of the XD better myself.

a-hum

I like all of the above (Glock, M&P, XD) but I would also like to see a little DA/SA love... FNP45 anyone? Thats my next pistol purchase, but it's going to have to wait for a few rifles.... unless I trade my 1911 for the FNP45 tactical

FNP45

Not a big FN or DA fan myself. But admittedly, I'm an old school hick too. I like my 1911, my Remmy, I want guns with wood (walnut, rosewood, cocobolo) and heft. Just my personal preference. I got nothing against guns that FN and Glock make, I hear they are very high quality. They just feel weird to me.
Just like bullpups. I get the concept. It makes sense. I can see how they are superior. I just don't like 'em. They don't feel right.

you just like the grip safety on the XD because it reminds you of the 1911. Wood is great for mil surp and old battle rifles... bullpups are gay anyway you look at them.

Frankly speaking, hard primers almost always pop the second pull and that is a whole lot faster than racking the slide!

FN45

I went to a manufacture sponsored suppressor shoot recently. They had a suppressed FN45 that kept breaking extractors. We could only get 50-75 rounds through it before the next extractor broke. Probably an isolated incident, because the SCAR-17 worked flawlessly in all firing modes...

I do not like the XD series one bit, I was able to run one through a pistol class with a friend. The angle of the stock or something was a bit off. Nice weapon I guess, but not for me.

As for the argument of continuing to pull the trigger when you get a malfunction, if the round does not fire, I am running my malfunction drills. I am going to train the same for all the different weapons I might come across, that way I am consistent and not trying to remember which sequence goes with which weapon.

True enough

I run through the drills also, hell, mix up mags with snap caps and do drills while running and gunning with the guys.

But, I'd rather the DA/SA hands down.
