God is busy right now.

If you don't know GOD, don't make stupid remarks!!!!!!

A United States Marine was taking some college courses

between assignments. He had completed 20 missions in Iraq

and Afghanistan . One of the courses had a professor who

was an avowed atheist, and a member of the ACLU.

Photobucket

One day the professor shocked the class when he came in.

He looked to the ceiling and flatly stated, "GOD, if you are real, then

I want you to knock me off this platform... I'll give you exactly 15 min."

The lecture room fell silent. You could hear a pin drop. Ten minutes

went by and the professor proclaimed, "Here I am GOD, I'm still waiting."

It got down to the last couple of minutes when the Marine got

out of his chair, went up to the professor, and cold-cocked him;

knocking him off the platform. The professor was out cold.

The Marine went back to his seat and sat there, silently.

The other students were shocked and stunned, and sat there

looking on in silence. The professor eventually came to,

noticeably shaken, looked at the Marine and asked,

"What in the world is the matter with you? Why did you do that?"

Photobucket

The Marine calmly replied,

"GOD was too busy today protecting America's

soldiers who are protecting your right to say stupid

shit and act like an idiot. So He sent me."

The classroom erupted in cheers!

The Marine in question had heard about the Einstein story and incountered a simular professor and decided if it was good for Einstein then by God a Marine should have even more of a right to do so. I am sure that there are plenty asshole professors out there that get clobbered and it does not make the news.

Try to focus on the message of the story rather than whether it is 'really' true. Many stories that teach us lessons are apocryphal. I would put many biblical stories in that category. Fairy tales, mythology--all these things tell us something about ourselves. This story gets posted every few months. So does the aircraft carrier story and several others. As a librarian myself, I am well acquainted with the rigors of research, so please don;t lecture us on this. Just enjoy it and learn what you can from it. You just got here a few minutes ago. I suggest you explore around a bit. Thanks.

Is that so scary?

All I said was that while the story may make you feel good and it may be funny, the story is a myth. It's just a retread of a fake story about Einstein humiliating his atheist professor. Is that such a scary thing that my comments had to be deleted?

So, I understand that, you followed a link on twitter, found this thread and joined this site, just so you could tell us that this is not a true story.
What is it about this story that you are enamored enough with to make you devote time to debunking it?

You're acting like a sophomore, which means "wise fool," like a guy who takes one psychology course and begins to analyze everyone. You came here just to argue. That's not what this site is about. Tell you what. I have a target rich environment for you. It's http://abovetopsecret.com Go play there and right all the wrongs of the Internet rumor machine. You'll never leave there because there is so much work to be done. As for here on gunslot, unless you want to talk guns and girls. just go away. Nobody gives a shit whether this story is real or not. Neither are Adam & Eve. That's not the point. Don't tell me to "explain" it to you. Like I said, you just want to argue. So don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I had a great response to joel's comment on the message being false, and when I tried to post it, you or raper (I guess) had deleted it. This is what I get for replying instead of posting in chronological order. Fuck my life. I hate me.

Your deleted comment suggested the message, as well as the story itself, is false. I think you're wrong and this is why:

The story could very easily be an example of the proverb "Pride comes before the fall", considering you have a university professor, a mentor and shaper of young minds, issuing a personal challenge to the object of worship for hundreds of millions of people. Instead, a mortal man, someone in this professor's class, a subordinate even, steps up and knocks the professor out. The message of this story could be that those in high places, rather than being worthy of great challenges, can be knocked down even by those who are not considered to be on the same level, that arrogance can be one's undoing.

As for your comment that the two beliefs (Liberal professor and conservative marine) being enemies is false, it is not. There are many issues that liberals and conservatives disagree on that may be seen by some as simple politics but are, in fact, ways of life and therefore worth fighting over.

Your description that the story is just an example of that proverb is fine, but that doesn't make the story _true_. That's my point. It's a fictional story.

As for the message, do you really consider other American citizens to be "the enemy?" People can have different political or religious viewpoints without having to be cast as "the enemy." That is my point about the message being false as well. The simple message in the story is "using violence against people with different political and religious views is good." Right? Everyone loved the story, it was funny, most people passed it along to friends, they thought it was good. The Marine is standing up for the soliders who are protecting our freedoms.... except of course the Marine violates one of the cardinal tenets of our freedoms which is that your freedom ends at the tip of my nose. I have the right to exercise my freedom of speech, but you do NOT have the right to punch me in the nose. So, while everyone was all gung ho over the Marine he was actually the one in the story who stomped on someone's personal freedom.

All of the details aside, my larger point is that it is false to paint these two sides as "the enemy." That mentality is what has poisoned our politics for the last 20 years.

I for one like the story and I am going to include it in the December issue of the online magazine that my son and I publish. It is a ham radio based magazine but we include news views and humor on a number of catagories and I think this will fit right in. It is called the HCRS RAGCHEW, and if you guys like when it comes out Dec.1 I can post a link so you can take a look and tell me what you think. Once you have the link you can go back and read all the back issues.

I do see various groups of fellow citizens as my enemy. Now, would I go and punch someone in the face because he expressed a different religious view? Of course not, and your point on the assault in the story is a valid one.

As far as liberals and conservatives, yes, there are those I view as my enemy because they have gone from expressing dissenting opinions to trying to make me change my way of life. There are issues that are more than mere politics to me and that is what has poisoned our system. Treating my way of life, things I consider fundamental to being a free American, as a political issue is what has caused so much discontent among many.

I'm fully aware the story is fictional. If it were true, then I'm sure the rest of the story would go on to talk about the marine being charged with assault and sued in civil court and sio on and so forth, but there are some things that are worth a few days in county and to some, this would be one of them. Remember, we have other rights too. The right to remain silent, the right to a speedy trial with a jury of our peers, and so on. Sometimes it's okay to exercise those rights as well.
