OK, so I have a Springfield and a Glock on the way. So what do I need to clean and maintain them? I'd appreciate specific brands.

Snakes that fit the caliber(s), a basic gun [tools] cleaning kit, plenty of Hoppe's9 and a good quality gun oil.

any 3 in 1 (clean, lube, protect) will be fine for recreational shooting. Hoppes no.9, Brake Free CLP, Rem oil, S&W lube and protect... there are tons. They all work. Hoppes and CLP are both good and are pretty popular

I resent that,

I'm in 6th grade now I use chlorinated brake cleaner and lot's of it especially on my Nagants and Romak where I am shooting corrosive ammo. I used to use Lucas gun oil but now I have switched to dry lube (for the gun equeer).......

my opinion

you guys have(cleaning rod) all progressed to the 7th grade(bore brush for your caliber),i think you have(break free) all done a great ( run brush thru bore several times)job explaining to Leartes(homo) the process of(switch to cotton patch) cleaning a gun(run patch thru until it comes out clean) in a way that makes it (run oiled cotton patch thru bore) easy for Leartes(homo) to follow so he can (wipe down rest of gun ,pay special attention to small areas) keep his new pistols(Q-tips for tight spots) clean and rust free.I am proud of( silicone cloth) you guys and I'm sure Leartes(homo) will learn alot from us.

It's a glock and it's a sprinfield and if it's a sprinfield xd, then it's kind a like cleaning a glock. Meaning no fancy tools required. You can basically get away with using Breakfree CLP on everything for a while and then after about 1000 rounds, do a real good cleaning of the boor with a copper solvent: Hoppes #9 or birchwood casey, hell, any copper solvent, to de-copper the bore. You can use a boresnake 90% of the time and then that 10% when you really want to get down to ever little copper/carbon particle, use a cleaning rod with patches dipped in hoppes #9 and a bore brush. You chose 2 fine weapons that don't require alot of finesse.

So now I'm a homo?

I wasn't trying to be stuffy. That previous comment just sounded like the beginning of a gunsnob rant. I can't stand when someone who knows more belittles those who know less. Having said that, Ok so I'll admit there was a lot of funny shit in there. Luckybychoice thanks for the ( if I'm a homo what does that make you for licking the tip?) play by play. I found it ( your teeth look like their melting ) very informative.

Just like i figured.

Runs great but turned milky about 1/2 hour into some serious work. I'm gonna run it a couple more hours and change oil and filters again and add some shit called "sea foam" to it. then cross my fingers.

you are doing everything right.Sea Foam will help alot.you can crack lines and let them bleed off a bit but changing oil and filters is the best way.also figure out why there is water in the system.

check the system vent in the tank or even the cap on the tank.another common issue is fluid gets low, operator grabs bucket of oil out of back of truck and pours it in.bucket was opened months ago and has gotten rain water in it while in back of truck.operators are NOT mechanics!

the tank has to be vented and since it is in a skidsteer it will probably have a hose on it and run up high somewhere.should have a check valve on it if not,get one.

I bought the skid steer 3rd hand or more. No maual or paperwork but a good solid machine. I will get back to the site where I found capacities and maint. schedules and see if I can find the vent hose. Heck, It could be rotted off! Thanks for the help. BTW It's a Bobcat 875, mid 80's model. Perkins Diesel.

Cleaning guns

I got used to cleaning black powder cannons
when doing reenactments. We always stopped
at a car wash and cleaned the hell out of it with
hot soapy water. We always carried portable air tanks
to blow them dry then oil everything.
I started taking all my guns in my trunk and what the
hell, wash them also. Blow them dry and oil them down.
No matter what you think it works and gets them clean.
Although some times soapy water isn't enough so I
use a product called Degrunge which will clean anything

Wilson Combat Grease is the absolute best you can buy. Use it on all my guns. Very little bit goes a long way. Troops in Iraq and Afghanistan all are supplied with it so it must be good. Get mine From Cheaper Than Dirt.

haha says who?, unless Wilson Combat Grease is cleverly packed in clear bottles with black lettering that says "cheapest generic brand of CLP available" then no their not.

as far as cleaning a glock goes the best method ive found goes a little like this.
1. FIELD STRIP IT
2. GET SHITFACED DRUNK
3. THROW IT ON THE GROUND
4. PISS ON IT
5. PASS OUT
6. LEAVE IT BY THE BONFIRE OVER NIGHT
7. WAKE UP AND REASSEMBLE

Of course that is unless your actually trying to lap the frame rails on that handgun or the upper on that M4...

Grease is a magnet for all things nasty which like to chew into metal...

On my carry weapon, or out at the range is one thing. But I dunno about in the dirt and grime of a desert...

Hell and the CLP can be used as Bug Juice if needed... LOL
