Do you hunt with a muzzle loader? If you do then cleaning your gun after shooting it requires special instruction. The single best way to clean a muzzle loading firearm is to use HOT SOAPY WATER!When i shoot my "muzzle stuffers",i take them home and run a bath tub of HOT water with liquid dish soap.I scrub the hell out of them with a bore brush, tooth brush and anything else i can think of to get the grime and residue off of them.If possible, remove the breech plug and nipple to get the best access.Scrub until the weapons come clean!I use compressed air to blow dry my weapons when i am done and VERY THOUROUGHLY! oil them!I apply a very small amount of anti seize lubricant(available at an auto parts store)to the threads of the breech plug for easier removal later.I oil all moving parts and the outside of them as well.I do all of these operaions with the barrel and action removed from the stock to allow for better cleaning.NOT REASPONSIBLE FOR YOUR IGNORANCE!ask questions! "There is a time for all things, a time to preach and a time to pray, but those times have passed away. There is a time to fight, and that time has now come." --Peter Muhlenberg, from a Lutheran sermon read at Woodstock, Virginia, 1776

Water hot enough to scauld you is just about right. Compressed air is ok only if you have a air drier to take any moister out of it or rust can start.
