a good one to own is the smith and wesson mp 9mm. it holds nicely and settles into a medium to big hands comfortably. good weight but not a clumbsy weapon. i think youll like it. but if you happen to have smaller hand, a good first pistol is the glock 19 and a glock 17 for slightly longer grip, simple design and easy to use care for/clean. and it is a lighter weapon. good luck

I would 2nd the Glock 17/19 recommendation as those are both great 9mm firearms that are reliable and accurate and a fairly reasonable price.
