A handgun for sports, to using it for defense.
First, do not carry a gun unless you are totally familiar with it accurately under stressful conditions. join a pistrol team. our engage in a competitive target shooting. Practicing at a range is not enough. you have to be able to shoot accurately. LEGALLY SPEAKING. |

a Falling Plates match are great practice. You'd be surprised in the added stress of shooting against the clock!
CharlesW
I'm going to target practice.
Tell the wife you said to.

Without a doubt badgirlj36, and it is something that can not be stressed enough...
Not being able to join the Tactical Response teams in the shoot house as we'd like. Or the cost prohibitiveness of going to an Academy such as Front Site on a regular basis. We have very few option for shooting under stress.
Two great tools open to all are...
Competitions: USPSA, IDPA, IPSC and others give you the ability think tactically and shoot while moving. You learn and perfect skills used in combative situation. Personal awareness comes naturally to many and is learned by others. Fast reloads, fast first shots and follow ups in an accurate manner, fast safe productive draws bringing the weapon into the center of the chest and punching it out in both hands on target becomes almost instantaneous in time. Learning to transition from target to target in the quickest manner while being safe (finger off the trigger) and then moving to the next set of targets using point shooting skills becomes habit... and so much more...
Paintball, why, because not many people get to use Simunition though those who can should every chance they get.
You actually get to go up against another human being with just as intense a desire to pop you with a pink paintball and you do them..
So yes it is a game, but many mental skills can be gleaned along with tactical skills. You can actually learn to watch the body mechanics and though process of others in their body language which could give you that extra edge when gauging the actions of others before they happen.
Learn to spot "tells"

AWARENESS does come Naturally for some of us. But have been places, Where there are a lot of person's. and there are walking around texing on there phone and not seeing where they our going. and that is not a good thing. I know we all have a busy lifes. But it only take about 2 min, for you're life to change.
Ishootdaily
I never claimed otherwise and never would...
By the way, 2 minutes is a life time many times over when speaking reaction speeds.....

Being proficient with any friearm you intend to put into service as a self defense tool. Being able to work all the functions under stressful conditions takes a lot more training and ability than shooting at paper targets at your leisure. Draw, relaod, clearing and all these in diferent lighting and positions is essential to have down pat BEFORE anything happens (god forbid). You dont want to be fumbling around when the time comes to defend yourself or your loved ones, so PRACTICE!!!

I have found that my neighbors (18) cats offer excellent practice when they walk through my back yard. They are surprisingly quick though!

Shug22
Ishootdaily, you are so right! Cats are sneaky. And I kinda like cats; I just can't eat a whole one.

Like veal of the feline world
Shug22
This kind of comment is going to get us both hated. When you start talking about cats, people start hating. And I'm just having some fun! Kitty parmesian?
runawaygun762
with cheese sauce. They dress out just like rabbits, so I figured rabbit recipes would work too. Know what? It does.

Boomer likes his Kitten slightly agitated and always freshly run to ground...

The "slightly agitated and always freshly run to ground"... Got to me..

My wife heads out to Texas twice a year and I tag along some times. Most times we are there for a week at a time, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio.
Have to sit a spell one time over a Beer (soda form me) and some Cordon Bleu-Kitty!
Shug22
would be honored to spend some time with you and your wife! Coffee for me. Too stupid to drink. Luv me some Cordon Bleu-Kitty though! Or Kitty Fajitas; either one is good.

I miss my pups, Sniper and Spotter. We had to put Sniper down a while back, and it still hurts. Spotter's a toy pomeranian and is daddy's girl. But I have a big-ass diesel truck and guns, so I get to keep my man card, no matter how pussy my dog is.
My son saw a beagle at the pound and they fell in love, but Household 6 doesn't want to get another dog until I get home and fence in the back yard. Beagles, by the way, are the hands-down best breed of dog ever and anyone who disagrees is a muslim communist who licks Nancy pelosi's tampons clean before driving their Prius to the tampon recycling center that was built over the ruins of a Veterans' Retirement Home in Berkley, CA.

no fucki.......wait....nevermind....,carry on

My son picked one up from a Rescue shelter, some lame tards kept the damn pup for a year and rally fucked his head up then dumped at the shelter.
Justins spent the last year showing Loki that not all people are crap, he's doing better listening and is smarter than hell. Tell you what, you can give him something to play with and then hide it when he is not in the room or in the house for that matter, he will show up with it in minutes, teasing you by shaking it at you just out of reach.
Snoopy all the way..

My dad found ours caught in one of those toothless spring traps. She had a permanent mark on her leg from it. The setup we had at our quarters on Ft Hood had a kitchen that had a door on two sides, on going toward the living room, and one going toward the dining room. Us kids would lay down on our backs and dad would put a potato chip on our nose. Lady would come running into the kitchen through one door, grab the chip, and out the other door without ever slowing down.
Only ripped my brother's nose off once, but after Lady chewed on it for a while, dad soldered it back on to his face. Upside down. Now he has to take a shower while doing a handstand or he'll drown.
Now that I have a couple acres outside of town, I'm looking forward to having a beagle. They're just too energetic to be an apartment dog, they need room to run.
Ishootdaily
NOT!
out of the hall, across the floor, off the back of the couch, onto the coffe table, into the side of the chair, over the couch and out the room, slide across the kitchen floor, into the door ass first, under the table between the legs of the chairs, across the floor into the wall and up the hall, repeat...

i have one of those 1/2 boxer 1/2 shephard 115 lb lap dog (he thinks) he got hit by a car chasing one of those veal dinners on 4 feet. should probably been put down but i nursed him back from the dead, now he won't leave my side. can't get hit by just any old car either nothing but the best for him, got hit by a 1958 Austin Healey on the way to mid-ohio antique race. i still have part of the headlight and threaten him with it when he really pisses me off.
Ishootdaily
